Anyone renewed passport recently? What’s wrong with my photo?

I’m trying to renew online but it can’t find the outline of my head. Do I need my hair scraped back behind my ears? Is the post office any more reasonable?

Its definitely not the hair, mine is much more flow-y in the picture I just had approved a couple of weeks ago.

I think your just a bit too low down and close in the pic. When they crop it your chin will be right at the bottom or cut off slightly.

I went to timpson and he measured the photo to ensure it was compliant. They’ll also retake for free if it’s rejected.

Oh don’t. It’s a fucking pain. I had my first photo rejected saying I wasn’t directly facing the camera, which I was. Did another one today and it’s still saying it doesn’t look as though I’m facing the camera. I’m absolutely face on to the camera ffs. I’ve submitted it anyway saying “I am facing the camera, I don’t know what else you want me to do!”

Last year I spent around 6 hours taking photo after photo after photo of my dad. He went to the post office the next day instead. We tried everything possible and couldn't get a photo of him to authorise on the online service to save our lives. Smh.

Just had a message to say photo approved, by an actual human I assume. They really need to sort out their technology. It makes a mockery of the supposed convenience of applying online.

I just had a look at my passport photo. You need the whole head from top of head to chin plus a bit if your shoulders.

BTW nice hair.

I renewed 3 in the last couple of weeks and the photos were taken with my phone against a wall in my living room. All approved ok. Have you tried using a picture you've taken yourself?

Maybe your top is too dark and blends with your hair

Got mine done in Timpsons, they submit it there and then and if it's not right will take another until it's accepted, (or so I understand).
