Change of circumstances leaving me helpless

Hello,
Just a bit of a back story, in the early days of my pregnancy I was made redundant from work with only 2 weeks notice. I then found it impossible to find a new job in time before the baby arrived. Since then I have been finding it very difficult financially but somehow I've made it work and made ends meet. This month I have found it so incredibly hard. I don't have any family on call and hardly any support system close by. I'm at a complete loss, my child is running extremely low on formula and I fear by this evening he will be completely out. I have contacted food banks but have heard nothing back. Also all of them state they're not even open for another 2 days. This is a very embarrassing time for me right now and normally I wouldn't be putting my problems out there, but now I have a 6 month old child I have no choice. Please if anyone has any useful suggestions please send them my way! TIA

Can you buy Boots gift cards with points? Cos you could do that then go to a different Boots and buy with the gift card?

Cheapest ready made at Boots is 65p for one bottle. Can you scrape that together?

SciFiScream · 25/03/2019 13:58

Yes I agree about statutory services and charities, trying to think of other creative solutions to the situation.

It's both horrible and manageable really. Horrible situation to be in at all, but lots of possible solutions none of which involve anyone here sending money. IYSWIM?

ColeHawlins · 25/03/2019 14:01

Yes ISWYM.

I didn't realise the premise bottles were that cheap.

Have you scraped around pockets and old bags for small change yet OP? Penny jar?

Was the unexpected bill one that you didn't have warning about?

You can get the bank to recall it under the direct debit guarantee if the company has taken money without giving you adequate notice.

x2boys · 25/03/2019 14:15

Yes as Anchor says ask the bank to reclaim the money,we had the council take a much larger amount of council tax (than normal ) one month (long story) we called the bank and they recalled it ,it was back in the account within a couple of hours

Your HV has refused to help? Am I reading that right?

Thanks for all who have contributed help and advice so far - we hope it's been useful. Very best of luck OP. We'll be closing this thread shortly.

Why is this thread getting closed? Confused

Why is this thread getting closed?

Presumably to reduce the chances of unwitting posters offering to send cash to the Op.

MyDcAreMarvel · 25/03/2019 15:08

You can buy 6month plus follow on milk with boots points. Normally would not recommend as unnecessary.
