Best sanitary towels?

Justanothernamechange2 · 25/03/2019 06:58

If I cant ask on here where can I ask eh?

Been YEARS since my last period. Few years on desogestrel followed by the last few years dealing with fertility issues means no periods for quite some time. Finally had a bit of a break through and started my first period in almost 10years last night.

Once things are figured out, I will look into better methods..reusuable pads, cups etc but its still early days and im still not sure how my body is going to behave.

I dont really want to use tampons as i was in hospital as a teen with TSS - it was awful!

But since I last brought sanitary products so much has changed - the choice is endless!!!! Please give me some reviews and suggestions.

Go for unscented pads. Less chance of thrush.

missmouse101 · 25/03/2019 07:09

Bodyform normal in the pink packet with wings, UNSCENTED ones, are really good. Usually on offer too.

AuntieStella · 25/03/2019 07:18

I buy sanpro for DD, and wouid love a list of unscented pads no 'freshness system'

I don't react to much, my my goodness those things made me itch. Really don't want to inflict that on DD

It's annoyingly isn't it?

I just typed 'unscented sanitary towels' into ocado, and there was only one hit (one of the Lillets teen range - any good for your DD?)

It's appalling that the unscented version is so hard to buy

azulmariposa · 25/03/2019 07:28

Lilets towels are good. Always are so plastic they give me a rash!

missmouse101 · 25/03/2019 07:46

The bodyform I mentioned above are perfume free, but they do one that is scented in very similar packaging, so be careful. They are really good and no irritation!

I’ve found Sainsbury’s own brand to be really good - unscented, good absorbency and cheap! I couldn’t bear the chemical or horrible perfumery of other brands!
However, I do find the Sainsbury’s own brand pantyliners to be rubbish though - thin and screw up when you move around!

SoftBlocks · 25/03/2019 07:49

Natracare are unperfumed but not cheap.

Justanothernamechange2 · 25/03/2019 08:20

Thanks everyone. I got the perfume free bodyform last night purely cause it was all the little shop in the village had - seems like theyre a standard winner.

If anyone is looking for unscented Pads Kotex aren't scented, at least the night time ones that I use. I have heavy periods and these are perfect for me. They also do a white pack which I believe are also unscented. Most supermarkets don't sell them but you can get them from Home Bargains, Superdrug, Poundland and Savers and no doubt a few other places. The night ones are cheap at ten for a pound.

SweetPetrichor · 25/03/2019 09:21

I really like Cottons, but they aren't the cheapest option. They are one of the ones I've found that don't irritate my skin; they are unscented, relatively lightweight and comfortable, and are definitely my go-to now.

Fluffyears · 25/03/2019 09:24

I like bosuform, I wearbthe night towels as they are longer to givebbetter ‘coverage’. Used to love always until they made them stink which gives me thrush.

Miffymeow · 25/03/2019 09:27

Pink bodyform are my favorite as they feel more like cotton, hate using Always, horrible feel to them and doesn't feel clean and dry.

Justanothernamechange2 · 25/03/2019 11:28

Thanks everyone. Gone with the bodyform. What about painkillers? 😂 this is quite a shock to the system

Yes bodyform are what I used to use when Always started adding scents etc. I now use “cheekymama” reusables & love them.

MrsCharlesBrandon · 25/03/2019 11:33

Paracetamol is probably best as it's not an inflammation issue, but co-codamol if it's really painful.

Depends what you can tolerate I suppose!

QuestionableMouse · 25/03/2019 11:34

Always infinity are good but not cheap.

ThroughASashWindow · 25/03/2019 11:42

I find Lidl own brand really good..and I am prone to flooding etc.

wonkylegs · 25/03/2019 11:43

I've started using KIND organic or Natracare

Couldn't get on with a cup and honestly didn't want to go with washable but wanted to ease my plastic guilt. Both are also very very comfortable and non irritating although not entirely sold on their tampons.

Langrish · 25/03/2019 11:44

Always Long without wings are most comfortable I found.

Pericombobulations · 25/03/2019 11:49

I would have said always nighttime but they have just been scented too so I have been stocking up via amazon on the old stock. So not sure when they run out what I will do but am hurtling towards menopausal so maybe won't be an issue going ahead

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 25/03/2019 11:50

Bodyform, they are unscented and quite flexible and comfy. They also do unscented nighttime ones.

LiquoriceLane · 25/03/2019 11:57

I use Ibuprofen and I find that taking Buscopan with it also helps.

FloofyDoof · 25/03/2019 12:21

I like bodyform, the unscented ones (the scented ones have a little flower symbol on the pack and say deo fresh). They feel less stiff and plasticy than other brands.

greathat · 25/03/2019 16:51

I've gone for reusable ones from honouryourflow. Only regret not doing it sooner
