Hello.

Please could you hit me with recommendations for a fab suncream for your face? Myself and teen DD both suffer with dry and spot prone skin and brands we can use fine on body don't work on our face...
We have tried;

Ultrasun (generic and the face special)
Calypso
P20
Malibu
Nivea (worst one for skin reacting)
Boots own

Don't mind paying a bit more if it comes highly recommended.

TIA

Eucerin - this one. It's brilliant. Not greasy and fragrance free. I love their products

Biore watery essence - from Amazon.

A dermatologist recommended altruist.we’ll be buying it to try this summerad DH has a skin condition which is affected by sun. It was developed by a dermatologist who works with patients with skin cancer. It is fairly price friendly too and available on Amazon.

Rottencooking · 25/03/2019 00:31

@fluffyears I tried that, broke me out :(

Flawless SPF Sam Bunting

Lots rave about Australian gold SPF 50 tinted but my skin is too sensitive for the fragrances:oils

Also heard good things about Murad but it is £££

I use Eve Lom moisturiser. Has SPF50.

I use Cetaphil daily defence moisturiser, which has SPF 50. It’s usually on offer in Boots (either 1/3 off or in 3 for 2). It’s lightweight and one tube lasts me ages. I also use Cetaphil cleanser.

I am blemish prone, had acne until about 20yo and have had acne in my pregnancies too. Skin is sensitive and prone to getting dry, it was drier in my youth but still dries out easily now so I need decent moisturising that also doesn’t irritated or break me out.

FWIW I’ve found going gentle with a few effective things far better than stuff promoted for use with for sensitive, dry, acne/blemished skin. I use Cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser, The Ordinary salicylic acid (does not burn or tingle me one bit, very gentle), and in the evening currently The Ordinary plant based squalane (for night time moisturising). This is actually the cheapest, gentlest routine I’ve had for years, and the most effective. And sadly I’ve spent many years trialling all sorts!

La Roche Posay anthelios is the best one I've tried.

La Roche Posay effaclar range is great for spots in general.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 25/03/2019 02:14

The La Roche Posay aerosol sunscreen. Expensive but was excellent last summer.

WinkysTeatowel · 25/03/2019 04:39

I use Eucerin too, although a different one. Important thing is to use one labelled as non-comedogenic which will not block pores.

Thanks all so much. A few to try! Might be cheeky and write off to ask for samples! Thanks for the responses.

@rottencooking oh no I better get done and do a patch test then before summer.

derekthe1adyhamster · 25/03/2019 07:28

I second the biore watery essence. It's the only thing I can use without breaking out

LucyInTheSkyy · 25/03/2019 07:31

I've emailed the companies to see if they might send me a wee sample- then I can try and see how my skin reacts. Worse to react to sunscreen is under my eyes / top of cheeks , centre forehead and chin. So delightful aged 39! I've been hiding in the shade and wearing hats most of the last couple of summers trying to avoid having to wear it on my face most of the time so this year I thought I should start thinking about it now. You have all been really helpful. Thanks again.
