I have bought myself some hotter shoes. And they have been great. I would imagine it has to do with having a proper sole on the bottom. Cost an arm and a leg though. But worth every penny. My feet love me again.

What shoes do you have. And how have they helped. Not sure what to do about flip flops this year. Didn’t have them last year as my feet were at their worst. Not sure if they are something I could wear. But thinking hotter ones would be the best bet? But. They are expensive so want opinions first.

Isn't the advice to wear something with a slight heel? So trainers with a slightly built up heel would be ok but flat sandal type shoes aren't advised I don't think.

sleepingdragon · 24/03/2019 18:41

I've just bought some wolky ewalk shoes, they are expensive but really amazing. I feel my feet singing with happiness when I wear them, which is a big difference to them.usually screaming in agony. I've previously had hotter and Clark's, and they have been ok, but nothing compared to these

Waytooearly · 24/03/2019 18:41

Wearing anything with a heel helped me a little.

With me footwear didn't help much TBH. What helped was:

  1. High dose of ibuprofen every day for a month
  2. Yoga several times a week

I could barely walk when it first came on.
It's completely resolved now, touch wood.

I put these inner soles in all my shoes and find them really helpful.
They've got good arch support and a dip for the heal.
They did make my arches sore for about the first week but I can't do without them now.

picklemepopcorn · 24/03/2019 18:45

LLjkk, hotter all have removable insoles to accommodate orthotics if necessary. They also have shock absorbent soles and are a good shape.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 24/03/2019 18:46

Custom (NHS) orthotics which only Cosyfeet shoes could accommodate, screamingly painful injection into my heel and alternating between different shoes.

I can't wear the same shoes twice in two days, I have to rotate through my shoes.

alphaechokiwi · 24/03/2019 18:47

Vionic shoes and sandals. Pricey, but great quality, wear really well. I get good bargains in the sale. Absolute game changer for me and my PF. I had it in both feet for nearly a year, cleared quite quickly once I sorted my shoes out. Birkenstock gizahs actually caused my PF, and I didn't realise it, so was in agony for months. I can wear Birkenstock Arizonas though. No converse or anything else totally flat.

I wear DM boots in the winter.

Julianaa · 24/03/2019 18:48

Skechers for me, helped so so much, along with stretches, injections, boot at night, and chucking away all idiotic shoes that were making the issue worse. Custom orthotics were no use for me.

Eminybob · 24/03/2019 18:50

Schuh’s Birkenstock copies cured mine

Mammajay · 24/03/2019 18:51

My doctor told me not to do exercises but buy insoles. Full length plantar f insoles from eBay £10 brilliant!

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 24/03/2019 18:57

@lljkk I have these ones. The same as I had last year. I bought them as the soles are the same and they really help. No idea why. My mil bought some for me and now I have three pairs. They don’t look too much like old lady shoes. But to be honest they could look awful but if they stopped the pain I would wear them.

Off to check out some of the comments suggestions. Thanks everyone

And for DH?.......

He's finally been to the GP and got a diagnosis. Any particular shoe recommendations for men please.

Daddylonglegs1965 · 24/03/2019 19:01

FITFLOPs, VIONIC shoes and sandals, a pair of ECCO boots. Varying footwear helps, wearing FITFLOPs or CROCS in the house as slippers (to minimise the strain on feet going from sitting to standing especially when first getting out of bed) and supportive arch in any shoe.

ssd · 24/03/2019 19:05

I didn't realise hotter shoes have a removable lining thanks for that I got a pair in oxfam for £6

wombatthewarrior · 24/03/2019 19:06

mement0mori, I also have those insoles from Amazon! I started them about 2 weeks ago and have been a lifesaver! My PF started about 6 months ago and it was agony to walk and then I got those insoles! They aren't the most comfortable to begin with, but they lift my heel up so reducing the pain. Barefoot and any flat soles are definitely out!

However, I'm now worried about what to wear in the summer?! I've have several pairs of Fitflops but they cause my PF pain and make it worse, so looking for some summer sandal suggestions for PF!

Katyy · 24/03/2019 19:10

Vionic shoes and sandals from qvc. They have a built in arch support.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 24/03/2019 19:17

strivefootwear.com/lombok-champagne-lizard.html
Strive sandals are lovely and ultra supportive.
The first time you wear them, it feels like you have a golf ball in your shoe. You wear them for a hour at first,, then increase,, then you never want to take them off.
They have a deep heel cup so your foot doesn't fall out the back.
Love them.

lljkk · 24/03/2019 19:26

How do you stop your feet being cold in those, BreakfastSquiff?

Fstar · 24/03/2019 19:31

Podiatrist gave me insoles, made it worse. She recommended hotter, bought some, didnt fit well and made no difference. At this point i had suffered 2 years.

Tried socks from amazon, no difference. Finally bought these wore them everyday and after a while i realised i had no pain at all. Unbelievable as they are flat and little support but it was what my foot needed apparently. Ive got a bit of a flare up just nlw wearing hoots so much with weather but a couple lf days back in these and it calms down.

Cantchooseaname · 24/03/2019 19:37

Sole insoles
yoursole.com/uk/

You put them in the oven til the indicator circle changes, then put them in fav shoe and put your foot in whilst warm. They mould to your feet.

They literally changed my life.
Not cheap, but worth every penny. I have 2 pairs, and switch them into shoes that I’m wearing. In 5 years I have worn out 2 pairs.

Chesntoots · 24/03/2019 21:00

I have the orthotic insoles (not Boots, but the same thing) and I found exercises helped.

The ones where you stretch your calves out like standing on the edge of stairs with your toes and dropping your heels down a bit. I'm sorry that's a crap explanation! I started doing yoga again and downward dog was good for it too.

francienolan · 24/03/2019 21:47

I found wearing flip flops was bad for PF but wearing any sandals with a slight wedge and a strap around the back were ok.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 24/03/2019 21:49

Hoka trainers x2 and Oofos flip flops for around the house. No idea what I’m going to do in the summer, dresses and trainers is not a good look 😄

Crunchymum · 24/03/2019 22:43

Granted my PF turned out to be arthritis but I swear by my crocs. Obviously indoor only Grin

Rottencooking · 25/03/2019 00:34

Timberland chukkas with the anti fatigue footbed... Much better since! I suffer with almost every footwear I try.
