How to stop itching the inside of my ears

meepmoop · 23/03/2019 21:46

Sorry if this is a bit random/gross but I don't know how to stop.

I have eczema in my ear canals which makes them really itchy and I can't leave them alone. I only seem to get relief from cotton buds and Kirby grins which I know is gross and damaging but I can't leave it alone.

I've been to the GP a couple of times but they don't really help as it's not a wax issue and just tell me to leave them alone.

How can I not itch an itch without going insane

Thank you

Ask for a steroid cream or use oil on
a cotton bud?

Imfinehowareyou · 23/03/2019 21:52

No idea but watching with interest. I have psoriasis in mine. Don't buy cotton buds or have Kirby grips in your house. That will limit some damage.

TokyoSushi · 23/03/2019 21:55

Watching with interest, I have this exact same thing. Unfortunately I have no solution, I just scratch them until they sting and bleed, give them 12 hours or so to heal up slightly, and repeat Blush

I have this and I get Otomize from my GP that really helps. I only have to use it for a few days for it to clear up.

It's so bloody itchy isn't it!!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/03/2019 21:58

I get itchy ears from hay fever, so only for a few months a year fortunately. I don't have anything helpful I'm afraid. I find that I can prevent myself from scratching them during the day but I have to keep my nails really short as I have a good dig around in that waking up but not quite conscious stage in the morning.

Same here.

Ear calm from Boots helps for a bit.

Cornishmum00 · 23/03/2019 22:00

I was given elocon scalp lotion by nurse, couple of drops for week and itching stopped

I get this. Have to put Vaseline on cotton wool in my ears when I shower. Shampoo etc causes it. Haven’t had a breakout for over 10 years doing that.

PenCreed · 23/03/2019 22:44

Dry out your ears after a shower - it might be that water isn't draining properly and is irritating them. I've been putting cotton wool in my ears to soak up water after showers for the last couple of months and they're a lot less itchy, and the skin isn't as dry and horrible either. I haven't needed as much EarCalm either! I look like an idiot, but I can live with that.

frugalkitty · 23/03/2019 23:11

Could you try an antihistamine? Might help with the itch. I've currently got eczema in my ears, it's not too itchy thankfully, but it's also not in the canal.

NobodysChild · 23/03/2019 23:11

Mix isopropyl alcohol with white vinegar, not sure on the ratio, you would have to look it up. Put a small squirt of this into your ear, several times a day for a few days. The isopropyl alcohol kills any bacteria and the vinegar neutralises the skin ph. Itching in the ear canal usually means that the canal is dry and the wax cannot naturally migrate. Also take an anti histamine for the itching. You should be itch free after about three days.

Thanks everyone, I will definitely try your suggestions out. Hopefully they'll work as it's so irritating.
Im also glad I'm not alone with the itchy ears

I've had ear eczema for years, it's horrible isn't it! I've had steroid sprays in the past, but now I just use olive oil to keep them moisturized. Can't say it stops the itch once it's got going, but does keep it at bay for a little while if I use it in a non-itch phase.

Troels · 25/03/2019 13:36

I used to use the Alcohol and white vinegar on the kids after swimming. I mixed it 50/50 same as the one you can buy in the shops in the US.
It'll sting like hell if you have broken skin, but works to dry your ears out.
I'd do the coton bud with a tiny bit oof vaseline on till they are healed and take an Antihystamine it works to stop me ripping my skin off when I really get bad eczema.
