Sorry if this is in the wrong please, first time poster! just looking for a but of advice if anyone has any. in pregnant for the first time and would be 12 weeks yesterday (friday) I have had backache since Tuesday and Thursday started to bleed (brown blood, kind of like the last day of a period) I exhausted all options before attending a&e where I was given an anti-d injection and had my cervix checked (this was closed) the doctor told me I had old blood there and that as I wasn't in any real pain I could go home and return for my first scan on Monday, if I were to be in unbearable pain or significant loss of blood I should go to A+e so that I'm in a safe place...so off I went trying to be positive, Friday I carried in the same but with mild stomach cramps, now I usually have heavy periods and get what I would call moderate period pains where I will alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen, today I woke from period like pains maby a fraction worse at 5am and have had these in waves all day including backache, I'm not bleeding red blood but not filling a pad however theres quite a bit there when I wipe after using the toilet. I guess I'm just looking to see if anyone has had this or has any advice. the doctors made it clear that if i go to hospital i wont be scanned until Monday and will only be there to ensure I'm safe, if I am misscarrying I'd rather be at home with my partner where I can have support rather than being stuck in a room full of other people...sorry for the long post.

I didn't want to read and run. It sounds like it could be a miscarriage, sorry, from my personal experience. I had bleeding and period-type cramps for two days and probably miscarried on the third day.

However, obviously I could be completely wrong (and hope I am). You've only got tomorrow to wait, I'd definitely go on Monday for a scan as that'll tell you. Sorry, I can't be of any more help.

Sending you lots of good luck and hugs x

Unfortunately you won't know until you have a scan. I've had a miscarriage where I had similar to what you describe but I've also had 2 "successful" pregnancies where I had bleeds and cramps.

The cramping could be your uterus stretching and bleeding can be normal. They can also both be signs of miscarriage. When the hospital say heavy bleeding they mean filling a pad in less than 30mins (and even then it'd need to be more than once).

Do you have someone around to support you emotionally?

I do, I have lots of support at home. I know only a scan can tell me what's what and I know know I'm not bleeding enough to go to hospital I guess I'm just wanting some reassurance which you have given me so thank you. I don't have a huge circle of female friends that have had children so it's hard to know where to go for truthful advice. thanks for your reply xx

If you have any of the following then, if it was me, I'd go to A&E:

  • vaginal bleeding that’s different from a period (e.g., more watery)
  • pain in your lower abdomen, or pain just on one side
  • pain in the tips of your shoulders
  • diarrhoea and/or vomiting; or pain when going to the toilet
  • feeling dizzy or faint

These can all be symptoms of an ectopic which, as you haven't had a scan yet to confirm the location of your pregnancy, you could be at risk of. There should be someone on-call for gynaecology, even on a weekend, who can scan you to rule it out.
