...Was once a commercial egg producing hen and as you can see she was in a pretty poor state when she first came home to roost, without the aid of a charity she would've been sent to slaughter aged just 17 months. Now she lives in comfort with us and mullers my garden with her 9 friends, 4 ex battery hens like her and 5 hybrid hens. My garden will never be the same again but the feeling I get when I watch her and the other four rescued hens is well worth a ruined garden (plus we are lucky enough to be able to fence off an area for the hens so we can still have a nice garden to sit in and enjoy).

Lovely to see the transformation . You are doing a great job with Henrietta and friends Smile

She looks super fit.

But also very angry.

You wouldn’t want to discuss commercial egg production techniques with her would you?

She was trying to tell me I'd forgotten her sardines Grin, we give the girls tinned sardines when we clean out the henhouse but today I almost forgot. But no, I think she has very strong opinions on battery farming and I wouldn't want to get into a row with her.

A friend of mine had ex-battery chooks, one of whom I named Lady Henrietta Cluckington-Squawk. She was a proper madam too! :o
