Are these heart attack symptoms?

I don't know if I'm being daft or not.
For a few months I've had chest discomfort and a stinging pain every now and then. One night it woke me up.
It's been happening more frequently along with a numb and tingly left arm.
Today it's been here all day. My arm has intermittent pins and needles. Ive got the mild weird discomfort in my chest and i just feel terrified for some reason. Weird and panicky.
Admittedly things between DH and i are rubbish at the moment so i don't know if it's just anxiety?

Im 44, about 3 stone overweight and i do drink Blush. Do you reckon it's worth a trip to the GP? It's really worrying me. The weird palpitations have literally just happened while I type this. I can FEEL my heart sort of wobble if that makes sense?

Meh.... im not in agony. Am i just anxious or is it heart symptoms?

It's not like a Hollywood chest clutching pain.

Particularly for women this is not a real life symptom generally.

A colleague had a heart attack at school. We were all with her. We could tell she felt ill but no one suspected heart attack. It just didn't present like that. At one point it looked more likely she was in labour, on her hands and knees, rolling hips, etc.

Can somebody take you to a & e if you don't want to call an ambulance. I would go today. If it is a false alarm it will put your mind at ease and on the road to discovering what it is.

ChiaraRimini · 23/03/2019 13:14

A&E, you need an ECG to check if it's a heart attack. Can you get a lift or a taxi there?

A&E absolutely won't mind if you turn up and it's something minor, they'd much rather check you out as you genuinely have a problem. Might be serious, might not, but only they can tell.

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 23/03/2019 13:35

I have had two heart attacks out of the blue and I was still relatively young, not overweight and quite fit.

What I can tell you is that Women often do not display the same HA symptoms as men. When I got to hospital the first time they were incredibly relaxed about my symptoms, until the Troponin test came back. The second attack nearly killed me.

Don’t muck about, get your symptoms checked out. Only a Doctor can diagnose what is happening !!

Mof3K · 23/03/2019 13:44

Ok im dressed and im going.
I feel ridiculous. The chest pain is less but my arm still hurts with occasional VERY mild chest twinges. I feel very heavy and odd though.
Im going on the bus!!!!!
That's how managing i am. Surely that's not right????

I don't want to describe my experiences in detail here, but please act upon your extremely significant feelings of terror, and get yourself to A & E without delay. I am worried for you.

TheTeaCosyofDoom · 23/03/2019 13:52

X post. Well done you.

beckslovestimmy · 23/03/2019 13:54

Make sure you have your mobile in case you need to call for help. You still should have called 999. Make sure you tell them when you arrive that you have chest pain that goes into your arm so they see you ASAP.

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 23/03/2019 13:55

Do you feel sick or nauseas at all?
Glad you are getting checked, always better to be safe than sorry

saffy1234 · 23/03/2019 13:56

Hi as a registered nurse please call 111 today and explain these symptoms they will undoubtedly refer you to either the nearest a&e or OOH drs.Please.Let me know how you get on

sagradafamiliar · 23/03/2019 14:11

Classic anxiety (medical anxiety, not 'feeling anxious') symptoms believe it or not but absolutely get it checked. Good luck OP it's awful.

Mof3K · 23/03/2019 14:23

Was triaged immediately. Had ECG which i heard the nurse described to another as " well that's not very exciting is it". Was told it was normal . Which of course is good but i feel so foolish. Had bloods taken now been put back and the waiting room Blush.
Chest pain minimal but still tingly arm

Mof3K Good that you've been seen straight away (the fact that you must have been triaged straight in to be seen suggests that the A&E staff will have been concerned about your symptoms). Better to be safe than sorry. Please don't feel foolish.

carrie74 · 23/03/2019 14:34

'Not very exciting' is EXACTLY what you wan to hear health professionals saying. It's a good thing. Take care.

Mof3K · 23/03/2019 14:40

Oh i know. That IS what I want to hear. Im just so embarrassed as i knew i would be. Now waiting on bloods.

OP posts:
LividLaughLove · 23/03/2019 14:49

Triaged immediately means they agree your symptoms are worrying. Not exciting means phew. You have done the right thing and will get the correct care.

I was exactly the same with a suspected DVT. Didn't want to waste anyone's time. Wasn't a DVT in the end but all the circumstances said it was.

Mof3K · 23/03/2019 15:01

It's interesting to see some of the types of people waiting. There's a positively holiday mood amongst some, whole families with others, and so many people eating. Hmm

Frequent flyers know how to settle in for a long wait (?)
I wonder about pericarditis for you, OP. Friend has learnt to live with it (after a few visits to A&E).

ChiaraRimini · 23/03/2019 20:20

Well done OP. Glad they ECGd you straight off.
If they ever say "that's an MI" then you know you are having a heart attack btw
(I had to call 999 for a friend who was having chest pain which turned out to be a heart attack. The paramedics were able to do the ECG when they arrived at his house and he was taken straight to theatre when we arrived at hospital. Scary but he got absolutely 5* treatment)

ChiaraRimini · 23/03/2019 20:23

By the way the bloods will be to check for an enzyme in your blood which shows if you have actually had a heart attack, as even if the ECG is normal you may have had one which has now resolved. They may want to keep you in for 12 hours to do them again.

JaneEyre07 · 23/03/2019 20:29

I suffer from costochondritis OP, and had very similar symptoms to you with my first attack. Awful feeling of dread, kept bursting into tears, and random chest pains. Had quite a few trips to A & E where I had an ECG and bloods done each time. Had to have a lot of tests to rule out anything cardiovascular.

Maybe worth mentioning to your GP?

beckslovestimmy · 24/03/2019 07:44

I'm glad the ECG was ok, how were the bloods. It's always worth checking any chest pain and it's great it wasn't anything 'exciting'
