3 year olds bedroom

We are moving house soon and my middle child, 3 year old boy, will have his own room for the first time. He’s the one who will most likely be most affected by moving house (given his age), so I wanted to get his bedroom done and finished before we move in. Also, because he currently just has a toddler bed in his brother’s bedroom (no furniture of his own, poor middle child!) I need to buy him everything new, so will be the most practical room to start with.

I can’t decide what to do in there though - he loves Paw Patrol but I don’t want a character theme because as soon as I’ve done it he’ll be into something else. What does everyone else’s 3 year old’s bedrooms look like?

My older one had a pirates themed bedroom, so don’t want that - I thought it would be nice for him to have something that’s just his without any hand me downs.

Thanks for your ideas Smile

Dinosaurs or jungle

We decorated DS’s room when he was just turned 4.
He has a loose sort of space theme, plain blue walls, dark blue curtains with silver stars, space bedding, a planet ceiling lamp and space themed posters on the walls.
Most of the spacey stuff can be changed when he’s older if he wants so we don’t have to decorate again.

My 3 year olds is sea themed. He’s got sea creature wall stickers, a red stripy lamp shade and nautical flags/ bunting plus a nautical duvet. The walls are a pale blue so in theory it’s easy to get rid of the theme without totally redoing the room.

The best thing to do so that the room ages well is to keep the walls plain colours and then accessorize to a theme. So pale blue walls and paw patrol bedding, rug, lamp, curtains etc.

As PP, have Paw Patrol soft furnishings then keep the walls a normal colour.
From what I remember when DS was into them you can get Paw Patrol EVERYTHING.

DS was vehicle and emergency vehicle obsessed so we had themed bedding, curtains and lamp/lightshade. Next did some good designs ay the time.
Apart from Paw Patrol what sites he enjoy playing with / watching / favourite stories?

Agree about keeping walls and carpets neutral.

My DS, 3 in May, has an animal/dinosaur theme but that's because of bedding, wall stickers, large poster in frame. Everything else is neutral as I expect him to change what he likes quite regularly. We decorated it when he was 2, prior to that it was basically a spare room with a cot in it.

Kungfupanda67 · 23/03/2019 06:48

Agree with nuetral walls and carpets, current pirate theme is bedding, lampshade, wall stickers and posters.
He likes animals, we have a big box of animals that get played with quite a lot. It’s hard to think because he’s so paw patrol obsessed at the moment, all he’s playing with are the pups and their vehicles and a dining chair for the look out tower 🤦‍♀️.
Will have a look at animal/dinosaur accessories, see what I can find :) thanks

I once stayed in a child's room that was painted as a sunset - it looked fabulous.

I thik primary colours work well for toddlers up to early teens. As it is his first room I think a toddler sized table and chair so he can do drawing or painting would be good.

Agree with plain walls ans the bedding for what ever hye is in to.

My ds had the next little diggers range at 3, then knights and dragons, followed by dinosaurs. By far dinosaurs lasted the longest. At 11 his room is mine craft themed now. As others have said plain coloured walls and change the soft furnishings.
