What symptoms do your children have if they are allergic to cats?

All 3 of my young children cough at night, even when in the day they haven't. Their rooms are ventilated, and we have no damp or mould.

I'm starting to wonder if it could be allergies to the cats? We recently went on holiday for 1 week, and none of them coughed during the week away, but as soon as we got back they are at it again!

It's different for everyone. Also what exactly they're allergic to. I have no problem touching dog fur, for example, but their saliva/water vapour in their breath affects my asthma. Cat fur is fine on my skin, but if I touch my eyes after stroking one, my eyes will swell up. If a cat licks me, I get a rash. The cat allergy symptoms I can avoid (very rare my cats lick and I won't touch my eyes), but the dog allergy symptoms I can't avoid. So I have cats but will never have a dog.

I'm allergic to cats. If I'm in a room with one I sneeze continuously, my eyes water and my chest feels tight and wheezy.

could be.coughing at night is an asthma symptom,
my dc are not allergic but I am. I have allergic asthma. I get an incredibly itchy throat first and then I start to cough.
breathing when lying down is impossible for me when affected.
sorry to say, but you might need to rehome the cat and deep clean the house.

My little boy coughs at night, his eyes swell and go red and he wheezes and sneezes Sad
And I love cats! Gutted we can't have one. House dustmite allergy also causes night coughs. Maybe with getting them skin prick tested then you'll know either way

I'm allergic to cats. Absolutely fine unless I touch a cat then absent mindedly touch my eyes - at which point I end up with itchy runny eyes, sneezing etc.

Have you tried giving the DC an anti histamine tablet to see if it makes any difference? If no difference it's probably not an allergy at all. Even if it is an allergy, it may not be to the cats, but something else in your home. It's possible to get allergy testing done; I had it done and it picked up my cat allergy several years before I first had an allergic reaction to them.
