Microwave - which one?

I am looking for a microwave that doesn't have lots of fancy things but not tiny inside. Don't need a grill or combi, don't need pretty colours, just a straightforward microwave (like they used to be although I realise that has long gone).

Have looked at so many I am cross eyed.

Any suggestions please?

I got mine from Asda. Simple twisty knobs for power and time. No flashy programs that I will never use! £35 if I recall correctly. Love it!

Got mine from Argos, main reason was it's the closest seller of such devices and was still open when mine blew up!

Thanks.

@Watto, have you had yours long? Wondering if it is still available. I have seen some that look simple but then I don't understand the settings on the knobs, it's not easy from a photo.

Mine was from Asda too and it’s brilliant. I think it cost me £40 (bought last August/September) but it’s a flat-based one so hasn’t got a turntable and it’s absolutely amazing because you can get no end in it. I would never go back to a turntable.

We've a Kenwood from Curry's. It has a digital control, and one-touch buttons. If you put something in and just press start it goes for 30 seconds on full. Repeated pressings adds 30s for each one. Or you can press any of the 1-6 buttons and it does 1-6 minutes. Or you can just press power, time, start and do it conventionally! And you can have fancy options too (which, bar defrost, we never do)

The one-button start is so useful I'd buy another one in a shot if it died. Also there are very few out there where you can program the time you want to the second...

Sorry missed link: this one

Just a plain turntable microwave, no grill or whatnot. Maybe not as cheap as some others but...

We bought the cheap one from Argos 2 years ago (with the knobs😂).
It needs replacing now as it's gone rusty, power was fairly rubbish on it tbh.

So we are also in the field for a new one and have no idea what we are looking for - also don't want grills or combo, I do want digital timer as the knobs are very inprecise even for 30 sec increments.

Go with high power/watts. Minimal set programmes. I found one in Argos last week but wasn't in stock anywhere which was great - had programmes for popcorn, beans, jacket potatoes, clearly designed with me in mind!

This is the one I'm looking to get - no idea if it will be any good

Thank you all for your replies, I bought a Sharp one from Tesco and it is going back, absolute rubbish. It has 2 knobs and the door is opened with a button which is quite violent and you can't push the door to as it keeps swing full open. That I could learn to live with but what I cannot accept is this:

  1. It creates so much condensation that you could get scalded when opening the door.
  1. The pools of water inside are excessive.
  1. It gets so hot externally that you will burn yourself if you touch it at all, even when removing your cooking, and even with nothing above it but the ceiling it is dangerously hot, to put it under a shelf would cause a fire.
  1. The vent is at the side which I believe is causing some of these problems, however my old one had vents at the back (not on top) and there was never any condensation or pooling of water.

I am back to reading reviews, not on Argos as they appear to be only published if they keep the ratings to 4 -5 stars, but Amazon which has plenty of bad ones, including lots of mentions of rust, water etc.

Some of the fancy looking ones are really flimsy and move about when you shut the door. I am restricted to shops where I can try the doors and knobs out.

@spinn I have a deLonghi mini oven, the quality has gone downhill a lot in the last few years, bought it to replace the previous model and it is rubbish but needed the door to open to the side so no choice.

I think they are all the same though, quality has been sacrificed for gain. Panasonic is still a decent make but I can't get a simple one with knobs in white. I hate silver and black.
