Getting iron supplements into a preschooler

Just found out today that my 3 year old is anaemic. He's to have a liquid supplement 3x per day. Really not sure I'm going to manage this. Any tips? Or is there an alternative?

Can you mix it with chocolate milkshake? Let him catch you drinking spoonfulls/syringefulls of plain chocolate milk and when he wants to try it give him the dosed version.

Have you been prescribed a particular formulation or can it be any liquid? Blue Iron, Floradix and Ferroglobin liquids all taste really nice - my DS loves them.

spiderlight I'm not sure, will have a look at the bottle and check those out, thanks

Tesco sell them all. I find them easier to administer with a calpol-type syringe.

It tastes lovely! Honestly you’ll be fine - just dont make a big thing of it and it goes down really well (although of course choc button bribery never fails)

I had the same panic when we had to give three doses a day for three months. However, DS loved it. He always asked for his "medicine" first thing in the morning!

Can I ask how did you find out and why did you check? I am worried about my preschooler but not sure what to look for? Sorry for detailing...

HeyDuggee that's reassuring, thank you.

Julia it was lack of energy and poor behaviour that led to me taking him to the Dr. Plus he has a shocking diet so I was pretty sure he was probably deficient in something!

Julia Dr sent him for a blood test to confirm

Thank you. Mine has a poor diet too & is super skinny plus gets tired easily. Wondering if I need to have her checked. But the idea of a blood test is scary....

Did you use any supplements? I give mine Abidec & Vit D through the year.

Are you seeing results?
