Sushi/ramen in Birmingham?

Can anyone recommend a nice place to have sushi and/or ramen in central Birmingham? I live in the sticks so Japanese food is a rare treat I enjoy when I visit big cities. Going into Brum one day next week and fancy a nice lunch. Thanks!

There's a brand of Wasabi in new street station. They're mostly a London based brand but really good. More of a quick lunch / takeaway thing than lengthy dinner mind you.

OKO Brunswick Square for sushi. Brindley Place is pretty good generally for food.

Gaijin sushi is excellent, but sadly only open in the evening during the week www.gaijinsushi.co.uk

Tiger bites pig is near new st station and is open at lunch time - they sell amazing bao buns and rice bowls. www.tigerbitespig.co.uk

(Sorry, I know bao are Chinese, not Japanese but they’re really good! I think Birmingham is lacking a really good ramen place, but I would love to find one so please correct me if I’m wrong)

There's a lovely (or was) at brindley place, we sat at the grill and they cooked in front of us. Otherwise there's one near the station that my dh grabs takeaway from when he works in Birmingham to eat on the train

Friend raves about Mt Fuji near the Bullring but I've not been there personally

KingsHeathen · 22/03/2019 17:16

My friends also like Mt Fuji.

I'm pretty offended by a place named gaijin sushi, tbh. Feels like they're taking the piss!

ToftheB · 22/03/2019 17:34

I’m sorry if I’ve posted an offensive term. As far as I’m aware it’s named that because the chef is polish, so it’s done in a jokey, self deprecating way. There’s a bit more detail in this review www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/apr/29/gaijin-sushi-birmingham-an-utter-delight-restaurant-review-jay-rayner

It’s honestly a very nice place to eat, and the sushi is excellent.

Interestingly I went to Gaijin last year and didn't think much of it - I was pregnant at the time, though, so my palate may have been misbehaving! I'll look at the other recommendations - thanks!

@avocadosbeforemortgages I often go to Wasabi when I'm passing through Euston Smile
