Vaseline nighmare

Hi
So as you know how the story goes, Vaseline has been well and truly rubbed into hair. I've managed to get it off but can't get rid of the grease, and help.

We have tried shampoo, conditioner, slacking talc, cornflour in hair for half and hour... And nothing is shifting the bloody thing.

Any saving tips out there?

Tia

Neat washing up liquid. Lather like mad before washing off. Repeat as many times as necessary.

TheFutureMrsB · 22/03/2019 13:24

Plenty of shampoo on dry hair and lather it up, rinse and repeat.

AdoreTheBeach · 22/03/2019 13:25

Firstly, I do have to ask - did you mean to put Vaseline in your hair?

If your hair is not coloured, go to the pharmacy and ask for rubbing alcohol to use on your hair.

Have you tried shampoo ( a not too gentle grease stripping one) in the hair before wetting?
Failing that, try mixing washing up liquid ( grim, but the stuff is meant to dissolve grease- mind the eyes though!) into the shampoo, still applied liberally to dry hair, then rinse. You may have to repeat a couple of times. You might also need a good conditioner after.

Oops, cross post!

TheMightyToosh · 22/03/2019 13:31

Don't add any more grease or oil. You need a detergent - washing up liquid as PP have said to get it all broken down and out of the hair, then conditioner once the hair is squeaky clean.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/03/2019 13:38

Use washing up liquid. That'll sort it.

GrimDamnFanjo · 22/03/2019 13:39

Washing up liquid is a liquid miracle. Sorts almost anything...

SoupDragon · 22/03/2019 13:41

Conveniently it was DS who used Vaseline as hair gel so I could shave it all off with clippers. Perhaps not the best plan for a girl though!

Palominoo · 22/03/2019 13:43

I love vaseline and have not had a problem.washing it off of hairline.

I suggest that you leave her head alone and just gently comb through her hair and tie back if long enough.

Just use a gentle shampoo as you normally would and it will naturally disperse.

Yes it will look like she has a product in her hair but only for a short time.

I wouldn't fo adding harsh chemicals to her scalp.

On a plus side any nits will fall off! Grin

mummmy2017 · 22/03/2019 13:45

It says you can rub in cornflour, as it absorbs grease.

The more ash that out with warm water.

mummmy2017 · 22/03/2019 13:45

Wash not ash.

Lol, after our forth hair wash of the day I've started to see the funny side of this, it's either that or start crying. Think we are both fed up of going in and out of the bath. Hairdryer has worked a bit. I'm going to leave it now till tonight, but a combination of all the things I have tried has somewhat worked.

I read on here years ago that whisky gets Vaseline out of hair, but can confirm that it does not. It was not a good day when I took my 18 month old to nursery with his scalp plastered in grease and reeking of whisky.

Almostfifty · 22/03/2019 13:49

Cornflour does work. You have to really, really work it in, and do it a couple of times.

It really will work, just keep putting it in.

Almostfifty · 22/03/2019 13:50

In fact, put it in, and leave it till tonight to wash it out.

Thebetterplace · 22/03/2019 14:04

Lol @ the whisky and Vaseline look. Thank you so much for reminding me it could be worse!!
Thanks for the cornflour tip, will give it a go tonight on her poor hair!!
