I've spoken to 111 earlier

And there is no emergency NHS overnight dental provision in the entirety of Wales.

I went to my GP yesterday afternoon with what I thought was an ear infection and a lump on the side of my jaw, only to be told by him that it's dental and because I don't have a dentist I needed to call 111 as there's nothing he could do for me.

I finally got a callback at half nine last night and although the woman was lovely and very sympathetic to the growing golf ball on the side of my face there is nothing to be done until tomorrow, when hopefully I'll be given an urgent dental appointment.

I'm in so much pain though. Really bad earache and my face feels like it's pulsating. Painkillers aren't touching it - and I take heavy duty morphine etc. I'm at the point where I'm contemplating chopping my own head off. Not really but arrrgh. Cold and hot compresses as advised by 111 have done nothing.

Cab you call again and ask if any hospitals have anything ? Is there not s debtslnout of hours service .... there is in Kent not sure about this time of night ... try holding water in mouth over infectiated area if it’s an abcess weirdly that can help x

I had an abscess and the swelling had reached my eye socket and that side of my face was massively swollen. Dentist told me to go to A&E.

I spent over 5 hours in Morriston Hospital (Wales) in a lot of pain only to be refused any help and told to go back to see my dentist.

Dentist prescribed anti biotics which did eventually kick in.

Dentist was annoyed hospital wouldn't help.

When I felt better I contacted hospital and they were adamant thst they do not treat dental problems.

Hope you feel better soon.

There has never been middle of the night emergency dental care anywhere. Most out of hours dental finishes by 10 and to get seen you need to go much earlier. One of the reasons to do Dentistry is sociable hours- unless you have insomnia!
First thing tomorrow ring around locally and get seen. In my area you would be highly unlikely to get an nhs appointment in a practice although you may be lucky. End of March no one has funding left. Try 111 again, if not privately you should get something tomorrow.
Bathe your mouth with warm salty water.
Hope you feel better and definitely go to a dentist tomorrow.

have you got a wheat bag or a hottie? if so get it as hot as you can handle and hold it against your face, also if you have some and can take them disprin ( not asprin) is good for tooth pain, but take in warm water not cold, also clove oil or even chew on a clove, it has a natural numbing reaction so also might help ( it does taste vile though)
if you dont have a hottie etc, boil the jug and pour over a folded hand towel, using tongs of gloves squeeze as much water out then place in plastic bag and wrap in a dry towel and hold against your face... the heat will help, and failing all that google tooth ache pressure points, might help or at least distract you from the pain for a short while

Cwtches123 · 22/03/2019 07:55

How are you op? Are you anywhere near Cardiff where there is a dental hospital that may be able to help.

MarvinMarvinson · 22/03/2019 07:59

She is correct. Dental provision in Wales is horrific. Once you get this sorted and get into a regular dentist, hold on to them for dear life and don't miss a single appointment or they'll boot you off their books! Hospital will only help if the swelling is endangering your Airways. Its an awful, awful pain to have. I hope you're OK and you get an appt soon as today.

I had a bad toothache once and from googling how to relieve the pain, I found that there are pressure points underneath your jaw. If you apply pressure under your jaw with your thumb in the right place it can temporarily relieve the pain.

Obviously this isn't a long term solution but anything for a few seconds of relief is worth a try until you get to the dentist.
