I would love to be a diagnostic radiographer but have a few questions.

How much do you earn once experienced say ten years into it?

Is it a good career for working parents?

Can you get part time jobs?
Can you get jobs that are just during school hours/ office hours?

Is there heavy lifting involved? Do you need to lift the patients?

What do you dislike about the job?

I'm one! Part time now since having children.

In the early years post qualification you will probably have to do shift work, nights and there is always an amount if lifting as with many patient care jobs although you should follow manual handling procedures and modern equipment is designed to be easier to move.

After 10 years you would probably have moved to band 6 (Google what range that is) maybe much higher if you undertake more study.

I love my job (And promoting it to others) but the NHS is a stressful environment at the moment. I'm happy to answer more direct questions. I've got a niche and do regular hours and part-time, so fits arou d my family life but it maybe more difficult if you currently have small children and want to start studying, however we do have plenty of parents as students, I imagine they have good support around them for the shift work.

Sewrainbow thank you for your reply!

What niche are you in?

And what characteristics and skills do you think someone should have to do the job well?

My niche is teaching but if I ever left that I suppose I'd have to do shift again or else negotiate set hours.

The skills you'll need are; compassion, communication and people skills, ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure. The job is technical but also appeals to the artistic side of my. There's a real sense of satisfaction getting a good film on a difficult patient. S good set of radiography a very aesthetically pleasing I think - but the may be just me! Wink
