How safe are political marches?

I would like to go to the March on Saturday but I haven't been on a March before. I'm not sure what to expect?

The last one was my first. It was very peaceful, met lots of lovely people who all felt the same. Free banners if you hadn't bought your own. Was very busy and took much longer to get going (as numbers were significantly higher than expected). It had a carnival like atmosphere, no pushing or shoving despite the crowd.

Was there with 7 yr old - don't be afraid go along!!

Hard to predict. Most are fine, some there's trouble. There've been several cases of heavy-handed policing too. Police can lawfully detain the entire crowd for hours preventing anyone from leaving ("kettling").

I'd be wary of taking primary-school or younger children.

Myself and DW who uses a wheelchair attended the last 3 anti-Brexit marches. Everyone was good humoured and if there was a heavy police presence they must have been wearing invisibility shields - we can't have seen more than 20 in a mile.

We got the tube to Green Park (travelled down from Brum) which has level access, and simply slipped onto the march there.

For less able people, Westminster station has a lift and level access, so you can leave from there.

We saw load of kids from babes in arms up - a lot of families, which cheered us up. Pushchairs, scooters, trikes. The lot. (Plus DWs rather natty EU themed "buggy").
