Doesn't he sound really genuine?!

I read in another article that he said won't be interested in any woman he couldn't have pulled before. We'll see how long that lasts! Gold diggers will be flocking. Good luck to him. He's very lucky.

EntirelyAnonymised · 20/03/2019 13:54

‘It bloody well will, or I’ll give it a damn good go’

Grin
Lightsabre · 20/03/2019 14:02

I'm always glad when people like this win - he's going to spoil his mum and dad. Really sweet and I hope he finds a genuine partner. Still think that the prize money shouldn't be this big though - there should be more winners, say of £5 million each which is still life changing.

Ellenborough · 20/03/2019 14:05

I laughed at that comment too. 'Anyone I don't think I could have pulled before won't stand a chance now.' Grin

Let's hope he sticks to it.

Kintan · 20/03/2019 14:07

I wonder what is is that Camelot say to these people that makes them go public. If he hadn’t gone public he wouldn’t have to worry about any gold diggers coming his way- which they definitely will now. Not to mention all the begging letters etc that he’ll now have to deal with for the rest of his life!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 20/03/2019 14:10

I wonder too Kintan Confused
I wouldn’t have told a soul 🤷🏻‍♀️
I remember reading somewhere ages ago that there is a choice in getting all the money in one go straight away or being paid out in installments - maybe if they go public they can get everything straight away?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 20/03/2019 14:30

I read an article once that said winners who go public are more supported by the National Lottery in terms of advice etc. Those who chose to stay anonymous are on their own essentially.

I'd take the money and run!

Asta19 · 20/03/2019 14:36

It makes such a refreshing change for someone to say "yes the money will change my life". When people win millions and say "I'm keeping my old banger and cleaning job" I just think to myself, why on earth did they buy a ticket then? Good luck to the guy, sounds like he's going to have a lot of fun with it.

Nameusernameuser · 20/03/2019 14:38

There was a lovely woman who rang who had 4 children with autism and couldn't work. She rang the benefit office to stop benefits and they couldn't believe it! So so lovely when nice people win.

Hidingtonothing · 20/03/2019 14:45

I loved his interview Smile also the couple from Ireland who won a little while back, the woman was asked whether they'd be getting personal security now and she replied 'I've never met anyone I couldn't take out myself', she was brilliant Grin

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2019 14:48

Ah that's lovely. I think they should get together (platonic ally) and have a holiday on a beach somewhere. The mother could hire a trained, fun nanny to be with each child full time and give them the holiday of a lifetime and she could lie on a sunbed and read her book. And then six months later they could do it all again :o

Hiding - brilliant! Love it when the good ones get their due Flowers

Good luck to him, hope he thoroughly enjoys it.

Nesssie · 20/03/2019 15:41

I think when you suddenly get £71 million, there's not much chance of staying anonymous! So at least this way he gets the financial advice.

I love his response, so genuine!

LarkDescending · 20/03/2019 16:07

They get the financial advice anyway. It is not conditional on going public.

Arnoldthecat · 20/03/2019 16:22

I certainly wouldnt go public . Money changes people, both the recipient and those around them. There is no doubt in my mind that some Jezabel will get her claws into him.

Mitzimaybe · 20/03/2019 16:28

Assuming that it does change your life then you wouldn't be able to keep it quiet from the people who know you, but once you go public then everybody in the world knows about it. Two very different things.

Arnoldthecat · 20/03/2019 17:04

Yes Mitzi,,i i guess its pretty difficult to hide £70 million. I wouldnt mind betting that if you had £70m in your bank account, and didnt tell a soul, the info would slip out somehow due to gossip within the bank.

Also of course inevitably you will want to spend it. Even someone like myself who isnt terribly materialistic would be getting spendy so people would wonder how you suddenly afforded the new house/car/holidays etc etc..

You might be able to palm them off with some plausible explanation but ultimately, it would leak out. Also at that level, money cannot help but breed almost exponentially.

For example £70m would produce nearly £27,000 per week at around 2%. I might start to struggle even to spend the interest,,leaving aside the issue of tax of course !

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 20/03/2019 17:10

As soon as I read “£71m lottery win for factory worker” on BBC headline, my instant thought was “Good! I’m happy for him” before I even read it. People in low paid jobs work so hard with little financial reward and it’s satisfying when such a person wins. Even more when you read it and the bloke sounds like a genuine nice guy. Good luck to him! No more shit work for shit pay! Grin

ScreamingValenta · 20/03/2019 17:10

I read his quote:

"I'm not one of these winners who is going to say this win won't change me,"
"It bloody well will or at least I'll give it a damn good go! There'll be no more shift work for me."

And I thought how refreshing - good for you!

It annoys me when I read quotes from lottery winners who say 'it won't change my life' - why bother doing the lottery, then.

I hope he has a wonderful time with his winnings.

PH03b3 · 20/03/2019 17:18

I really liked him! Felt nice for it to go to somebody who doesn't (look like) have a pot to piss in. Good man.

malpa · 20/03/2019 17:19

"Lottery winner, doesn't he sound like a fantastic guy"
"Doesn't he sound really genuine?!"

Is that because he's single and rich?

Admit it... you're hoping he spots this thread and sees how wonderful you think he (now) is! Grin

(When he asks for your hand in marriage and showers you with diamonds, don't forget us lot!)

SrSteveOskowski · 20/03/2019 18:01

He sounds like a really nice guy. I hope he enjoys every last penny of it.

Arnoldthecat · 20/03/2019 18:35

I think he sounds really nice too..! Grin Grin

LadyFlumpalot · 20/03/2019 20:51

I have relatives by marriage who are lottery winners and they were told that if you go public it can actually be easier in the long run. Yesterday's news and all that. It's all out in the open and people get over the news quickly.

If you try and keep it secret then it can be tricky, you can't tell anyone at all as the secret would be out but it would be like Chinese Whispers and before long everyone at the school gate would have heard that you'd earned a fortune through arms dealing or something hideous.

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2019 22:01

Lol malpa I did think it might look like that. I'm going to sound smug now but I w I uld t want to win the lottery. I love my life and I love my job. Im not going to lie, £100000 or so would pay off the mortgage and be very welcome but I wouldn't want 'life changing' amounts as I don't want my life to change. Oh yeah, and DH.
