Really Boring - How do you organise your holiday documents?

Just got our vouchers through from Jet2 for our upcoming holiday.

Gone are the days of the ACTUAL tickets you collected from the travel agents in a nifty booklet that kept everything together....

I print off the vouchers (Flight, Hotel, Transfer) and put each in a separate envelope with what they are written on them. I do the same with car parking vouchers we have, and with the boarding passes.

So we end up with the following envelopes:

  • Car Parking booking
  • Flight Voucher
  • Boarding passes (outbound) with time and date etc written on
  • Transfer Voucher
  • Hotel Voucher
  • Boarding passes (inbound) with time and date etc written on
  • Insurance Policy

So that's a minimum of 7 envelopes...

How do you organise your holiday gubbins?

Another one with a plastic wallet and everything in the order it's needed. And the plastic wallet has a popper so things don't drop out! And I have e docs in a Holiday file in my email. I've not yet done check ins using my phone, too worried my battery would die at the wrong moment.

I like the idea of a photo of your passports, I have been taking paper copies of those having once ( along time ago) having had my passport stolen when I was abroad.

koality · 20/03/2019 13:11

I agree, I want the paper documents to hand! I use an A5 plastic envelope with a popper closure, it is brilliant and the right size. Fits all our documents and copies, plus passports for 2 people. I keep everything stacked in order we need it then usually chuck out what's finished with before return trip. I email copies of passports and itineraries to myself and my Mum just in case too.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 20/03/2019 13:11

one ziplock freezer bag for anything paper only (passports mostly), plus duplicates/prints of any e-documents in the event of tech fail

email folder marked Holiday for accessing all e-docs.

Really, mobile boarding passes are great. Most apps also update them in real time and send you notifications of any changes. As for running out, I always have a spare powerbank with me.

soulrider · 20/03/2019 13:31

We still seem to have at least one thing each holiday that requires a printed voucher - car hire most recently

Normally have everything on Google drive then an A4 wallet for printed copies.

Stompythedinosaur · 20/03/2019 13:36

I keep both an e-copy and print outs in my bag in a plastic a4 wallet. I order them as they will be needed.

Justmuddlingalong · 20/03/2019 14:27

Anyone else just ordered one of those A5 expandable wallets? That size rather than the A4 size would be easier to put in hand luggage. I think the getting organised is all part of the build up of excitement. 113 sleeps to go. 👙🕶️

cjt110 · 20/03/2019 14:33

@Justmuddlingalong 27 days for us Grin Our holiday starts in the Premier Inn nr the airport the day before!

I set up a group whatsapp for me and DP and attach pdf or scans of any documents. Plus pictures of the location we parked in the airport car park and any other notes or messages/ important contact information.

I also print it off in A5 size and bind it at work for readability.

LostInShoebiz · 20/03/2019 14:57

You know travel organisers have been around for ages.

LostInShoebiz · 20/03/2019 15:01

I’ve got three of these, multiples for multi-leg trips.

I have a ring folder that all holiday stuff goes in in date and holiday order. When it's time for a holiday the relevant stuff gets taken out and an extra copy made. then put in order of use in 2 clear wallet thing. i have one and husband has one.

buzzbobbly · 20/03/2019 15:08

Jet 2 has an android app, yes you can use mobile passes.

Take screenshots of the boarding passes as well.
So if your phone is struggling to connect to internet or 4G (not unheard of), the passes are just sat in your photos anyway.

I never print stuff anymore, just use my phone and have electronic versions too. So wasteful. I have also seen more than one of these magical folders left behind at airport security points as well, but rarely will they forget their electronics.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 20/03/2019 15:13

I have something similar to LostInShoebiz, has sections for passports, tickets, car hire, hotel etc. I take out just the boarding passes and passports for our outbound journey and padlock the wallet to a secure pocket in my bag. I don't use that pocket for anything else so I don't need to keep opening it potentially losing something

Wallywobbles · 20/03/2019 15:14

Waterproof zip up A4 folder that originally came from ikea I think.

Me too. I got a pack of 5 from the pound shop and a couple are used for holiday paperwork. I don't like relying just on phones, it's fiddly finding the right thing to show at the right time and it could get lost, stolen, broken or the battery could go flat at an inconvenient time.

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 20/03/2019 15:24

Electronic files on phone :-)
