Would you rather go to Bath or Cardiff for the day?

My French lodger is going to stay in Bristol for two nights with friends. On a limited budget they are arguing over whether to go to Bath or Cardiff for the day. I dont know either of these places. Any thoughts please?

we did the 'climbing up in the roof/seeing the bells' trip or whatever they call it in bath abbey last year. 23 year old son did it under duress and we both loved it. not for unfit or claustrophic though

Bath.
Roman baths. (Also a tour you can do underground to see roman roads in tact)and the pump rooms.
Abbey tours.
Costume museum
Holborne museum
Victoria art gallery
Royal crescent museum
Jane Austin museum
American museum
Bus tours
Herschel museum
Victoria park
Walking tours (ghost, comedy and you can get an app to do a sort of treasure hunt)
Escape rooms
Lots of pubs and places to eat.
Nightclubs although not brilliant lots of interesting street entertainers.
25 mins on the bus or 10 by train. Don't go on weekend as it's tourist central or rugby central.and you can't move

Cardiff is better for shopping but from Bristol it's about 40 minutes. And can get busy on Saturdays when football/rugby is on.

I like both.

Cardiff is more lively. But there's plenty to keep them busy in Bristol for such a short trip.
