My daughter is three numbers away from the cut of Mark at grammar school entrance exam. How do I compose my appeal to meet the requirements and including supporting documents. Can any one help?

Surely if she didn't meet the cut off then there are no grounds to appeal?
I appreciate how frustrating it must be when she's so close but there will be children who did get the required marks who need a space.

You might get advice about an appeal on the education boards.

Unfortunately she didn't pass therefore she's deemed unsuitable for Grammar. There has to be a cut off somewhere.

On what grounds are you appealing?
Accept the place you've been offered, stay on the waiting list.
FWIW, three marks below cut-off in my authority is about 300 children.... they can't actually for them all in.

The basis of a grammar appeal would be to try to demonstrate that your daughter is deemed grammar standard and that there are exceptional circumstances as to why she did not achieve the pass mark and you would need documented evidence to support this.

These circumstances could be things such as illness, bereavement or traumatic experience, each circumstance would need to be proven eg if it was a medical issue you would be expected to provide medical evidence such as a doctors letter or hospital admission letter.

You would also need to provide evidence of her present results in primary school such as sat scores and a teachers letter confirming her consistent academic ability.

A few areas have a local review process where a head teacher can lodge an appeal to an independent panel before the results are released to parents if they think a child has under performed because of exceptional circumstances so if you fall under an area that has such a process it may be queried as to why this never happened.

Children in this area didn't get in who appeared on 1 mark away. I think unless you have extenuating circumstances you need to look at plan B.

Just to clarify my above post by illness I don't mean a cold it would need to be more significant than that. By bereavement it would be an immediate family member or a person that your daughter was very close to. If the primary school could also verify this and the short term impact it had on school work this would help.

Have a look on elevenplusexams lots of info on there relevant to your area. I know a few who have appealed and they submitted some school work and supporting letter from the head teacher and class teacher.
