Impetigo: OOH or wait until I can our GP tomorrow?

I think my twins might have impetigo 😩 I’ve got a phone appointment with our doctor tomorrow afternoon but wondering if it requires an out of hours GP trip? I a) don’t want to put unnecessary pressure on NHS resources and b) put two potentially highly contagious toddlers out into the world though so thought I’d get thoughts here. Boil washing bed sheets and towels as we speak 😭

Probably shouldn't have put this in chat but hoping for a quick-ish consensus...

I’d personally go out of hours just because the scab can spread pretty quickly even in 24hrs. Just be mindful of them touching things when you go out. (Perhaps leave them in their pram so they can’t run around touching things?). Depending on their age and where you live you can get the cream over the counter at the pharmacy. You definitely can in Cornwall but you can’t where I live (Derbyshire).

When my dd had suspected impetigo I phoned minor injuries for advice more than anything, they said if you phone the doctors ASAP and use the word impetigo they will see you.
And they did!

GP tomorrow not OOH. Where is it? Keep a strict hand washing schedule tonight and get an appointment first thing. It is contagious but you’ll probably find you could keep it contained well enough until tomorrow.

Thanks all. I took a picture to the pharmacy next door and he thinks I'll be OK to wait until tomorrow so see the GP. Just doing lots of hand washing!
