McD's is being urged to ditch the monopoly game, in an argument that it promotes childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes (www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-47601307). Not sure about that, but not the point of this post either....
There's a move to limit advertising to children, on a scale from what can be advertised to them to any form of advertising at all. But, is this just storing up problems for the future? When some threshold is passed, won't they simply be hit by an advertising sledgehammer they have no preparation to deal with? Didn't we have to build our tolerance/immunity thru a relentless series of "No" from our parents? Or is advertising now so sophisticated that children are being forced to deal with messaging that would have broken us just as easily at their age?
Thoughts please?
