Which tablet for the DCs...

Total first world problem of course!
We have an ancient iPad for the DCs but it's on such an old OS it's struggling to work with newer apps (DD has a maths app we can't get to start and DS likes a game that doesn't work on it for example).
They are 4 and 7 and DS has SEN so we tend to need the exact same app as he can be a little rigid.
I have an Air 2 but the screen just cracked and selling it on plus a refurbished one may be cheaper than a repair!
So I'm wondering about an Air (not Air 2) as any possible screen replacement wouldn't be quite so pricey?
We rarely find they "need" to use it at the same time - if both are under the weather but can't agree on a game, one watches the TV. If we're all waiting, or on a journey, they watch iPlayer together or take it in turns.
I'm also not sure what to get myself - I use a Mac at work, have a Windows laptop but hate using it in the evenings, DH has a Mac laptop and iPhone and I have an Android phone!
We had an old Android tablet but I didn't really like it but maybe it was just too old?

I'm mostly an Apple person, but I have an Amazon Kindle Fire that I love. It runs a version of Android, but with a simplified user interface. Amazon makes a Kindle specifically for young kids. They're so cheap you could get two for less than the iPad.

Can you use most Android apps on them?

You have to use Amazon's app store, but I've always found whatever apps I wanted on there. There may be restrictions for the Kids Edition.

This looks to be the list:

I think our best apps aren't on there sadly.

My dc 9 and 7 have shared an iPad 4 for the last two years. It's easy to use and seems very sturdy as it's not been at all damaged despite daily use for the two years they've had it. I think if he's used to an Apple system it's easier to stick with it.

DD has a Kindle Fire 8, it's hers but she has a kids profile on it that I can control access to. She's 9yo. I have wondered if an android tablet would be better (more app choices) but I like the Kindle parent controls.

DS uses my iPad with supervision. He's 3yo so I have a big rubber case on it! Plus we have accidental damage home insurance Grin

If you're not a technophobe and can follow basic instructions you can sideload the Google play store on a fire tablet.

Handy to know toogood.

Doing a bit of digging though there's at least one we really like that's iOS only Confused
So it may have to be a refurbished iPad.
