How to get my shit together

Lately I am all muddled up, forgetting words, forgetting events, things etc.

I have just gone to find my purse and it's not in my bag. Husband is at home and has checked the other 2 places it might be and it's not there. Fortunately it's only a cheap purse and contained only my cards. I have frozen and reordered new ones.

But I am fed up of this fuddle I am living in.

Yesterday I couldnt feel myself coming or going. So much to do to sort everything out.

Are you old or stressed? Recovering from an operation or serious illness?

Perhaps you should be checked for any neurological problems?

cjt110 · 18/03/2019 14:37

I have ME, an underactive thyroid, depression, anxiety.... The list goes on.

The other night I left the house keys in the front door overnight. Fortunately we live in an apartment.

I thought I had shut the door of my car and locked it with the fob. Next morning I see the door is open, car locked but my door wasn't closed.

I have misplaced my purse. Had it yesterday. Can't find it today.

Forgot to wash son's uniform for his after school thing.

I am forgetting my words at the end of sentences and even my 4 year old is finishing them for me.

You need to see your GP again.

Magnesium deficiency may cause similar symptoms as tiredness and forgetfulness.

MadameGazelleIsMyHomegirl · 18/03/2019 14:39

Could you be peri menopausal? This memory loss thing and brain fog are classic symptoms

GrimDamnFanjo · 18/03/2019 14:41

I find when I'm anxious I do mislay things a lot and then get into a cycle of overchecking.

cjt110 · 18/03/2019 14:45

I had a whole traunch of bloods recently. 27th December. All were fine. Those were for the hot sweats I was getting which proved nothing more than iron deficiency.

Look up brain fog and under treated hypothyroidism it’s very common sadly.
I suggest getting your thyroid levels printed off from GP with reference ranges and checking they are all in the upper third part of normal The range is so vast and out dated it really needs to be in the upper levels for the brain to have enough energy to function.

cjt110 · 18/03/2019 14:56

I can see my results on an app. I find that my thyroid is best when really surpressed. In Dec it was 1.4 which for me isn't optimal. I am better when it's 0.6 or lower

Does your mum know the state you're in? I got in a similar way once. It was a food intolerance that made my symptoms so bad, but I'm sure there are many causes. ADHD, stress, or a combination of these. See your GP again, but treat this as if this is ADHD-inattentive, and look for coping strategies. Daily and weekly to do lists, and the like. My life falls apart around my ears if I don't write lists.

Lellochip · 18/03/2019 15:04

I also recommend getting a print out of your bloods and having a google of optimal levels, my GP totally missed some deficiencies on my last set.

Folate & B12 worth checking if they tested those, they can be linked to anaemia and either could cause brain fog. Vitamin D could too (and we're all deficient in the UK) but they probably didn't test that one unless specifically requested.

It could also be down to the depression or anxiety. I'm having similar issues (forgot my own address the other day!) and currently all tests are good, so presuming must be a mental rather than physical issue. Are you getting any treatment for these?

pickingdaisies · 18/03/2019 15:07

Just wrote and lost a long post, argh! Food intolerance (did it to me) stress, ADHD-inattentive, are other possible causes. See GP again, meanwhile, Google ADHD-inattentive and find coping strategies to help you keep life on track. To do lists, daily and weekly, set reminders on your phone. Knowing you don't have to keep it all in your head will allow space to remember keys, etc. When I start leaving keys in the door, I'm usually sleep deprived.

And now my first post has turned up!!!

cjt110 · 18/03/2019 15:10

I just feel like Im trying to run the hous,e look after myself, my son, my husband, my Mum, work.... I can't do it.

The events of the last week alone are proof.

I had all manner of bloods done in december and all was fine.

I am struggling with sleep at the mo - 4 year old waking with bad dreams or waking early and I'm the one he wants.

I have ME, an underactive thyroid, depression, anxiety.... The list goes on.

OP, I have ME too and the brain fog is unfortunately just one of the many lovely symptoms to live with. Mine gets particularly bad if I'm unwell/more fatigued than usual.

If you can, get a magnesium body lotion rather than take supplements - magnesium is much more effectively absorbed through the skin, and I found it helped my sleep which in turn helped me remember more.

Also, Google "the Perrin technique" - there are some lymphatic draining exercises you can do at home which I find seriously help with the ME in general which then helps clear the fog.

I've also found intermittent fasting helping hugely - having a couple of days a week when my body doesn't have to work as hard at digesting builds my energy levels up (I know it sounds counterintuitive, but digestion is the bodily function that used up more energy than anything else)

cjt110 · 18/03/2019 15:34

@NoWayNoHow Thanks so much for those suggestions.

Unfortunately because of the myriad of things, i dont know whats causing what but i'll certainly give those things a go

You need to ask DP for more help if you have one

cjt110 · 18/03/2019 16:19

I've sent him a message this afternoon, he's off today, saying how I have been feeling and that I need some more help.

I also need to let things go... I cant leave dishes on the drainer, they need to be put away etc

Iron deficiency can do all that, take it seriously; also you give thyroid results without measures so the numbers are meaningless I.e put the measures in.
