1.5 tog sleeping bag confusion

Hello - wasn’t too sure where to put this!

I usually use the grobag “what to wear guide” but they don’t mention a 1.5 tog sleeping bag.

DD (17 days old) hasn’t got any clean 2.5 tog sleeping bags as we’ve just had an incident with the last one during a nappy change!

I’ve put her in a 1.5 tog sleeping bag and she’s got a baby gro on. The baby gro is long sleeved and covers her legs but doesn’t cover her feet. (So like a footless sleepsuit). The temperature in the room varies from 17-19c although it’s usually in the 17-18c mark.

I’m worried incase she’s not the right temperature and I don’t want her to overheat but I also don’t want her to be too cold.

Help!

I have my 5 month old in a long sleeve sleepsuit with feet and in a 2.5 tog right now and the room is 19 degrees

So if anything your LO might be a little chilly..
Maybe put a vest on under the sleepsuit but I know it will be awful having to undress her to do that..
You could put socks on her

I’ve read the guide it was just the fact that the guides refer to 1tog rather than 1.5.

I’ve put the central heating on and am drying out her 2.5 tog sleeping bag so when she’s fed in an hour or so hopefully she’ll be ok!

I’d just put a short vest under her sleepsuit if it’s not dry.

Thanks all!

Yeah I was worried she might be too cold :(

Central heating is on so should bring the temperature up.

You’re doing great x

Even in 2.5 tog we have dd in a short sleeved vest and a babygrow with feet, at 1.5 I'd have a long sleeved vest and babygrow.

It's really a struggle to keep them warm within the guidance, and if you think about it, if the actual temperature outside was 17-19 degrees on a summers night it would in reality feel much warmer.

If the back of her neck doesn't feel clammy or too hot then you're fine.

The guidelines are there for optimum safety, not comfort, so they do feel quite chilly. It helps them not sleep so well/deeply, which is good from a safety point of view, but rubbish for sleep Personally, I think its ok to go for a balance, so I tend to dress warmer than the guidelines suggest.

It's just a guideline. My first always needed more and second needed less than this recommends. In any case, unless the baby is really sweating and red in face, they are probably not overheating.
