Best thing to treat deo build up on shirts?

Sorry - really boring - but work shirts and school shirts aren't lasting because of a sweat/deo build up on armpits.

I've started spraying them with a pretreater before washing each time. But the smell is still there faintly Confused

Any great hacks to stop this/clean them up?

White vinegar.... pretty easy. I have also read that making a paste with borax works as well, but I find soaking in white vinegar breaks it up well!

Thanks - what about a pretreater before washing every time - as opppsed to a soak? I'm trying to do something each time they're washed to prevent it

I find soda crystals in the wash to be really effective - also good for tide marks on the collars.

Are you washing them at 30? Try 40 or even 60 if the fabrics are amenable.

Doing them at 50' already

Hmmmmm. Bio detergent too, yes?

Have some wine vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray on a bit before you put it in the wash?

yellowsun · 17/03/2019 11:36

I’ve now found anything that goes in to the wash that helps but a soak in vinegar and water does wonders.

*not

Don’t use anti perspirant, just use a deodorant. Since I stopped using anti perspirant my clothes don’t get that build up.

90 degree wash with washing powder and that crystal white stuff.

A salt rock deodorant is the way forward

clydeonabike · 17/03/2019 12:16

I found some stuff on amazon 'deo go' that's worked wonders on my teens white school shirts.

blacquejacqueshellacque · 17/03/2019 12:36

With 2 hormonal teens (one unwell) - antiperspirant is the only option for now.

Thinking about it - I am getting on top of the deodorant marks - it's more the remains of a body odour smell.

Washing on a hotter wash? I wash most things at 40 and we don't have this deodorant problem.

blacquejacqueshellacque · 17/03/2019 12:52

I do at 50 but one of my teens isn't well and excessively sweats - clean on every day tho.

I have the same problem with dds school blouse, I always wash at 40° and the armpits are as hard as the hob of hell! They are expensive to replace so I will be giving the white vinegar a go. I read somewhere too that you should pour boiling water through the stain to soften it before you wash, I haven't tried that yet, just passing it on in case it helps someone.
