It's not to sell I want to keep it but I'm moving soon and I've wanted to make it look nicer for ages, but dunno what to do with it.

Any suggestions? Grin

I always think changing the nobs/handles makes a huge difference for not much money. Look at Super Front, or Zara Home, or even Ikea do a good range

Bloodybridget · 16/03/2019 22:25

Could you post a photo?

Needallthesleep · 16/03/2019 22:25

Also, lots of people upcycle the Ikea Hemnes drawers, if you google it may give you some ideas

Quintella · 16/03/2019 22:27

I'd decorate the back of the shelves.

Or you could use masking tape to paint around and then remove to reveal geometric patterns.

Haven't got a photo but this is basically what it looks like. It's got literally nothing special about it. Probably a bit bigger than that, it's about 4ft tall I would say.

Put up cycled bookcase into Pinterest, there are millions of ideas from easy to impossible!

Deadbydaylight · 16/03/2019 22:43

Would putting this on it all over look bad? Maybe not the back of the shelves, could just paint them?

I think that would be difficult to put it on well, you’d have to cover the whole thing & made sure you matched up the wood pattern really well on any joins

Deadbydaylight · 16/03/2019 22:53

Yeah did worry about that. Ah well. Probably just paint it and put something on the back of the shelves.

I cut loads of pictures out of magazines and decoupage-d them onto a plain white bookcase, took bloody ages mind but it looks good now!

Bluesheep8 · 17/03/2019 07:29

I'd paint each shelf a different colour. Not bright colours but pastel. And perhaps put some wallpaper on the back. Well, I say that but I'd have to get someone else to do it. All the ideas but no practical skill, me.

dontgobaconmyheart · 17/03/2019 13:43

Is it melamine? You could chalk paint it? I recently got the bug for upcycling but I do think it can be a false economy, primer/wax/decent brushes/decent paint and days of faff (inbetween waiting for coats to dry). Sometimes it would be easier to just donate to charity or buy another piece you do like; especially when you factor in that amateur upcycling quite often looks a bit crap when it's done. (Coming from a crap amateur).

If I were moving I'd wait until I were in, it might go better as it is, and it's hard to visualise things until you're actually 'in' and have decided on colour schemes etc..

justasking111 · 17/03/2019 13:49

I saw the programme where they wallpapered the back of each shelf, looked amazing.

Deadbydaylight · 17/03/2019 22:00

dontgobaconmyheart I think it is melamine. I do worry about it looking crap if I do it, I'm not very artistic. I can see in my head what I want to do, but cant get anything to look like that. Grin
