I had this very conversation with my midwife the other day! I checked with the NHS website:

www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/pregnancy/is-it-safe-to-eat-sushi-during-pregnancy/

I also contacted our local Yo Sushi who confirmed with head office that it's not frozen at any point but is farmed. Based on what the NHS site says about the risk level from farmed salmon, it seems to me that this is ok.

My midwife says as she's not 100% sure, she can't officially say it's ok. But she did admit that if the NHS site says risk from raw farmed salmon is low then that's probably ok, and the official advice she has to give is no raw shellfish, which salmon is not. But obviously she couldn't give it in the green light without being certain.

My mother is a health visitor and she gave me a withering look and said "no". I then showed her the link and she did concede it's probably alright but I still felt like I was being a terrible mother Smile and in the end I did cancel my dinner plans. And cry. But the risk is probably very low (and it's up to you to decide if you want to take the risk anyway, I don't think there are sushi pregnancy police) so do what you think best really Smile

Occasionally, raw fish like salmon contains small parasitic worms, such as anisakis, which can make you ill. These worms can cause health problems in people if they eat raw or undercooked fish infected with them.

Infection with these worms results in a condition known as anisakidosis (formerly known as anisakiasis or anisakiosis).

Symptoms include:

severe abdominal pain
nausea and vomiting
diarrhoea
The disease is unpleasant and painful, and in very rare cases can be fatal. Eating fish contaminated with anisakis can also cause an allergic reaction. Freezing raw wild fish kills any worms that may be present and makes it safe to eat.

Certain farmed fish destined to be eaten raw in dishes like sushi, such as farmed salmon, no longer need to be frozen beforehand. This is because these particular types of farmed fish are very unlikely to contain parasitic worms because of the rearing methods used

This is from the NHS website .

The thought of the parasitical worms and the framed salmon Grin would put me off , it'll get its own back on you somehow ( I don't eat fish anyway) .

To me, none of those issues are specifically pregnancy related though, or have a particular risk related to being pregnant such as miscarriage. No one wants D/V, pregnant or not.

Agree no one ever wants to be ill...and had frozen salmon else where just yo only farm.
Cant say i was ever ill before.
Just didnt know if anyone had actually had the salmon at yo while pregnant.
Read all the articals and nhs sites but no where can give a definitive answer.
You would think there as so many pregnant women at any one time more research would have been done or a better answer given!
