Why do I hurt so much?

My muscles really really hurt when pressed with anymore than a light touch. If someone pokes me in the arm it’s agony, it hurts for minutes after. Massages are so painful - they think they’re being light touch but it can be agony. Certain areas are worse but really every muscle hurts.

Many many moons ago a doctor mentioned fibromyalgia but I don’t have any pain when they’re not pressed so it seems unlikely.

It’s just very confusing and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to why?!

Are you stressed?
I keep tension in my shoulders and forehead, on its own it doesn’t hurt, if I touch it though, it makes me wince with pain.
That’s when I know I need to do something about it. I’m much more aware I tense up these days, so I make time to relax.

It’s been going on since I was a teenager and I’m now 40 so I can’t have been continually stressed!

Weirdly my back and shoulders don’t hurt as much (although masseurs always say they’re terrible) it’s my arms, chest, legs and lower back which are the worst

This is how my fibro feels along with aching. I hate being touched because it hurts so much!

I have this too, my toddler climbing on me is agony, can’t handle elbows digging in to skin or being climbed on or any sort of firm pinpoint pressure. I’ve always always been like this for as long as I remember, also can’t tolerate cold water directly on my hands, so painful!

ReallyReallyNo · 15/03/2019 20:58

I find my shins are my worst area, if I get knocked in the shin I actually cry!

Chimpfield · 15/03/2019 21:01

My first thought was fibromyalgia........ it was just pain in muscles when touched, now it's developed into severe constant pain. Ask for referral to pain clinic x

Windingstreams · 15/03/2019 21:11

I don’t think it needs investigating further medically as it doesn’t affect my day to day - unless someone pokes me in the arm! I was just wondering if someone had a magic cure telling me I had low Vitamin z or something.

I definitely don’t want an official fibro diagnosis

I have a fibro diagnosis and this is how I feel. Any touch on my skin is horrendous. Don't rule it out just because you don't get constant pain.

Windingstreams · 15/03/2019 21:38

It’s not any touch though - a normal touch is fine. It’s just pressure that really fucking hurts!

You may have Myofascial pain syndrome. I have frozen shoulder(s) and while undergoing treatment with a physio she diagnosed me with this. I would be in severe pain when she touched me and she was shocked because she said she wasn’t even applying pressure at times. The pain from the frozen shoulder plus whatever inflammation and I’d be crying during her massages sometimes.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myofascial_pain_syndrome

I’ve been sensitive to touch in some way ever since I was a teenager, usually the arms. It’s been heightened now due to frozen shoulder and a long term illness I have that can affect the nerves.

Definitely get it checked out. It’s not necessarily all in your head. :(

Windingstreams · 15/03/2019 22:35

Hmmm that sounded quite promising but having had a look at a couple of websites it seems to suggest this is restricted to one muscle or a muscle group. Mine is pretty much all over

@Windingstreams mine is all over as well. My thighs and calves especially. Definitely talk to someone about it instead of brushing it off.

LadyMinerva · 16/03/2019 02:59

Before I even got to that part of your post I was thinking fibro. Close friend has it and has described it as you have. She has good days and bad days.

daisychain01 · 16/03/2019 03:53

OP come on, value your health. Saying you don't want a diagnosis is another way of sticking your head in the sand and hoping the matter will go away. If you're worried enough to start a thread, then make an appointment with your GP

There's no such thing as a magic cure. There's diagnosis and then there's treatment based on the diagnosis. Not hoping some wellmeaning strangers on the internet can guess what's happening.

Windingstreams · 16/03/2019 07:57

@daisychain01 I do value my health but this just doesn’t interfere with my life. It’s a quirk I was wondering if anyone had an answer to rather than a major medical worry for me. If it was some super mild form of fibro then what point would loads of doctors appointments and tests do to confirm that?
