Scotland -tax free childcare

Does anyone use the tax free childcare scheme in Scotland? I missed the voucher cut off when I came back to work and have been told to use this scheme. I've signed up for it but I don't understand what I do. Do I pay money in to the wallet and then the nursery takes the money from that? Thanks

We’ve just started using it, and it’s really easy. We pay in our share of the children’s nursery bill (80%), the government put in the other 20%, we then select our nursery from the list and pay them direct from the account. Wish we’d got round to signing up sooner, we’ve saved loads this last couple of months

Thanks AragonsGirl I signed up for months ago but haven't really gotten around to working out what I was meant to be doing and I'm now kicking myself at how much money I could have saved!
The nursery have given me the number I need to put in for them. We currently pay them by direct debit. Do I just tell them I'm going to be doing it, pay the money in to the account I've setup on the gov website and stop the direct debit?
Do I need to put the full amount in the first month then the government pay in the percentage to what I have paid in? Sorry I probably sound really daft I don't know what's confusing me so much about it Blush

We gave the nursery the payment reference number for both kids, and they passed this on to their finance department. With regards to paying in, as our bills currently vary month to month I’ve been waiting til we get a bill, working out 80% of it and paying it into the account for the government to top up to the full amount

Perfect thank you, I really need to get it sorted before my next invoice. I feel like I'm just throwing money away!

I’m kicking myself for taking so long to do it. Will save 2k per child per year! That, plus nursery trialing the 30 free hours from next month, will save us a fortune!

My nursery did it for us ! its a private nursery within a private school - maybe they just do things differently.
We had a nanny one day a week when my second was born though and that was a total nightmare. doing the registration and PVG stuff has to go through a 'registered body' of he care inspectorate rather than directly with the care inspectorate but hardly anyone does it!!
and all this just to get the account set up in order to use/receive the vouchers. only found 2 companies doing it. went with nanny-agency.net coz the other which i wont name didnt seem to understand it themselves!
anyone got problems using tax free childcare or vouchers for a nanny give me shout ive been through it ALL

mamanat · 09/05/2019 10:19

some nurseries process it on your behalf but i think its the more expensive ones. be glad you're not trying to do it for a nanny

I can use tax free childcare for childminder but I don't know how to apply. Is it just through the Gov.uk website?
