Electric toothbrush in UK - we don't have a shaver socket in bathroom

After much nagging from the dentist I bought myself an Oral B electric toothbrush yesterday (half price in supermarket)

Got home, opened box and its got one of those small 2 pin plugs for a shaver socket. We don't have a shaver socket

I obviously aren't planning to charge it up in the bathroom but is it OK to just swap the plug for a standard UK 3 pin plug and charge it in our bedroom or is that likely to be dangerous/dodgy?

Get an adapter?

ArfArfBarf · 15/03/2019 08:11

Just get an adaptor and charge in the bedroom.

I thought you only had shaver sockets in hotel bathrooms?

I wouldn’t want one in my bathroom.

DelurkingAJ · 15/03/2019 08:15

We’re in a new build and have them built in...very handy for electric toothbrushes. Intrigued as to why you wouldn’t want one?

We have one in our mirrored bathroom cabinet that's over the sink - absolute must have in this household for electric shavers too.

Used an adapter until I had my bathroom redone and added a shaver socket which DS2 can now use (infrequently) now he's got the odd chin hair

Why wouldn't you want one in your bathroom Confused they're standard in houses now a days.

Because it would look like a hotel bathroom Grin

I think they sell the adapters in Wilkos and DIY shops if you don't want to order online. Probably larger supermarkets too.

My Oral B came with a base unit that can plug into a normal socket, have they stopped doing that now?

I don't have a shaver socket in my bathroom either, so regardless it was always going to be kept elsewhere.

I heard some electric toothbrushes have USB chargers now. I was pretty gutted to get one out the box and find a crappy old 2 pin needing a clunky adaptor.

I am holding it against the brush
