How bad can it be?

I have my 21 year old DN staying with me and for the last few days she was complaing that she was getting pains down below and felt swollen. Today she has been crying in pain, had a white/grey discharge (I haven't seen this) and was complaing that when she went a toilet it was unbearable pain to wipe her self. I have taken her to gp led walk in centre tonight and they've said they can't be 100% sure as it was too painful for the doctor to examine her but they are thinking its thrush. They have given us a prescription for some thrush treatment and for some stronger pain relief but due to the time we come left the walk in centre not many places was opened to get the prescription. We tried a supermarket, a chemist and boots but no one had the stuff she required. It will be in after 1 tomorrow. We was told that if the pain got worst to go a&e. She has just been to thetoilet but is now in tears as the pain was bad after she wiped.

My DSis is away on holiday so don't want to contact her if I don't need to and plus my dn doesn't want me to call her and ruined her holiday and come home early.

Can pain be this bad? She's got a hot drink and some co codamol what she was prescribed.

Have you got any bio yoghurt in fridge? Would definitely sooth the area until you're able to pick up what you need

Alliwantisthisorthat · 14/03/2019 23:40

I haven't but can go and get some from the supermarket.

I think I just feel like I should be doing more as it's my dn and although my dsis didn't need me to look after her my dn wanted to stay as she doesn't like being home alone in the evenings.

I've told her not to go a work tomorrow and I will get some rubbish food in and make her a bed on the sofa with the duvet and we can watch Netflix. I will phone at lunch time to see if her prescription has come in.

I don't want to be the bad one by saying we don't need to go a&e and it's not thrush and something more serious and she won't let me phone my dsis and she's 21 so I need to respect her wishes. I've never had thrush so unsure if it's right to be in this amount of pain. I know she's in a lot of pain as when I said show me (I meant pointing through her clothes) she took her clothes off and showed me and it does look very red. She's currently crying and cuddling my dog.

No pants on, no soap down below and natural yoghurt on the outside for now. Just to soothe it and cool it down a bit. Poor woman. Last trimester of pregnancy I had it and it was awful!!! It was sore bit then I was wearing maternity pads too so that was rubbing and making it worse. Definitely empathise poor soul.

Samind does this sound the same?

I really feel for her and she's not one to play up on a illness. I've never known her to phone in sick when she clearly wasn't ill. I've only ever known her to phone in sick twice both from tonsillitis and that's been twice in 5 years. I feel so helpless. I just don't want to dismiss it if it could be something else. You worry more when they are not your own.

Have you tried getting some canestan over the counter? Perhaps just the cream if she is being prescribed a specific oral treatment but the cream should help. The dual canestan also contains an oral tablet which you just have to take once. Also codeine/paracetamol can be bought over a counter too and may help overnight until th other medication is available.

Alliwantisthisorthat · 14/03/2019 23:54

I've just got her some natural yoghurt and a big bar of chocolate.

I hope it has eased a bit now she's had some pain relief.

Alliwantisthisorthat · 14/03/2019 23:57

Is that only over the counter or can I but it of the shelf? Just getting into car now so could run back if I need to.

You can buy canesten in supermarket s

Samind · 15/03/2019 00:02

Yeah without being crude, it was red and swollen and hurt to keep legs together/crossed.

Alliwantisthisorthat · 15/03/2019 00:04

Thank you I've just got her some.

Alliwantisthisorthat · 15/03/2019 00:06

It was very red and she said swollen. She is saying it's more of a pain rather than being sore and if she puts pressure on it the pain subsides a bit. I can not expected her to go a work like this tomorrow. She can't even wee without crying in pain.

Also drink loads of those probiotic yoghurts! I've always thought they were a bit of a nonsense thing but I do take them when I have thrush just in case it helps and I've decided they probably are a factor. I had the same problem getting hold of treatment as you seem to have, apparently it's a manufacturing issue? Anyway I drank three or four of those little yoghurts a day and the symptoms cleared up on their own! (Thank goodness Grin it really is horrendous)

Samind · 15/03/2019 00:11

Poor thing must be so uncomfortable. Btw you're such a bloody lovely aunty!!! 💜

Alliwantisthisorthat · 15/03/2019 00:31

I'm willing to give anything a go for her. She's in so much pain. I never thought thrush could be so painful.

Thank you saying that I am a good auntie but think anyone would do the same.

She's all wrapped up in a little ball with the duvet round her. Pain relief not even touched the pain in the slightest

Samind · 15/03/2019 08:11

How is she this morning OP? I'm pretty sure you've gone above and beyond what mine would do 😂😂

labazsisgoingmad · 15/03/2019 08:18

thrush can be excruciating until you have it you dont realise how painful and can be hard to get rid of firstly bio yoghurt applied to area and eaten too avoid too many sweet sugary things as its just feeding the infection i am sure when she gets the prescription it will help make sure she drinks loads of water so her urine is well diluted then it wont sting when she pees hope she feels better soon

Alliwantisthisorthat · 15/03/2019 10:28

She's had a really bad night. I could hear her crying in the night. She woke up about 8 to phone work and she went a wee and passed out. She said it was from the pain. I've put her downstairs with me now and she is dozing on and off but even when she does get to sleep you can see she's in pain.
She has been applying the cream but it's give no relief.

I just don't know what to do. I've phoned this morning to make sure her prescription is definitely coming in and they've told to phone after 12 to check it's in.

I really don't want to go against her wishes but I am thinking of phoning my dsis to see what she thinks but I don't want to loose her trust in me as she confines in me a lot.

I've never seen her this ill. I'm going to buy her a nice pair of cotton pj's when I pick up her prescription. The things woman have to go through. I also had the chat last night about std's but she said she's only slept with 2 people and her boyfriend she's with now she's been with for about 2 and half years and said they both got tested before they slept together and I have no reason to believe he has cheated on her, you can see he absolutely adores her and wouldn't do anything to mess it up. He treats her like a princess.

Samind · 15/03/2019 10:54

Awe that's so tricky! How long did the doctor say it would take for the cream would help? It is painful but I'm lucky that natural yoghurt definitely soothed the pain and cooled it down a fair bit. Did the doctor definitely confirm thursh?

Well if it was your child is would you like to know about it? I know she's an adult too so it's a matter of using your own stances really.

Samind · 15/03/2019 10:55

I second the plenty of fluids. The more she pees the easier it will be and less sore to actually go.

Alliwantisthisorthat · 15/03/2019 11:44

The doctor didn't confirm thrush. They tried to do an internal but she was in so much pain they couldnt do it.

I'm not sure how long cansten takes to work.

We've said that if the pain is still at the same level early evening then we will phone my dsis.

Samind · 15/03/2019 11:50

Could it be a urine infection? They're pretty painful too. But thrush is awful aswell. The canesten have oral capsules as well. Also lots of probiotics in future!! And water!!

Alliwantisthisorthat · 15/03/2019 12:05

They tested her water and all was fine.

She is sat crying in pain again. I'm going to have to take her somewhere else. She's taking cocodmal and it's not really taking the pain away. I can't see her in this much pain. Will they think I'm wasting time taking her somewhere else for the pain.

I've also texted my sister asking her to call me.

OP posts:
Sonicknuckles · 15/03/2019 12:19

Could it be cystitis?

ifoundthebread · 15/03/2019 12:41

Thrush can be awful. I found the (TMI) discharge can make everything so sore and irritated, then because you don't touch it due to soreness the discharge makes it more sore and swollen, then you go to the bathroom and can't wipe properly due to the pain but the urine is stinging anyway so it's a lose lose. I used to have to lie in the bath with the shower directed down there from a height just warm, to sooth the pain. I then would put canestan on a towel and dab dry with it. I had to get strong antibiotics from the Dr's to shift it completely. Hope your neice finds relief soon.
