Anyone have electric underfloor heating but NOT throughout their whole house?

We are thinking about having electric underfloor heating put down in a few rooms when we have renovations carried out soon. We would keep the existing gas fired central heating with radiators in the remaining rooms.

I just wondered whether you have experienced any problems with having two different heating systems? Also, I was looking into ordering a smart meter with our energy provider but they seemed less keen to provide one to homes with UFH, though I’m not sure why?

Many thanks.

I have underfloor in the new extension and radiators in the rest of the house, in anything but beautiful weather it's like going from the 21st century to the 19th going from the kitchen to the rest of the house! You actually feel the warmth going the other way. Stupid old house.

Why does it have to be electric underfloor heating? Can’t you have the standard type?

We’ve got it just in the bathrooms, it’s lovely

I have underfloor heating downstairs, radiators upstairs.

It works fine together. If I were redoing upstairs I would put UFH everywhere, it's so lovely to walk on.

Wet is more reliable and cheaper to run than electric, I think.

In 2 bathrooms, l wish l had it in the whole house it’s so good.

We have underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs. Works fine.

Thanks all.

Notcontent- DH seemed to think there was a reason why wet system wouldn’t be practical, but he’s asleep now so I can’t ask him.

We have it in the bathroom. It’s lovely. It’s on a timer and comes on twice a day to keep the room dry and free from damp. We couldn’t afford to have it in the rest of the house though, the electric bill would be sky high!

Underfloor heating just in the bathrooms.

I have a wet system in the kitchen and normal radiators elsewhere. All works great 🙂 I can control both systems separately.

We have electric Under floor heating in kitchen only, it is lovely but it’s very expensive to run. I only have ours on from Nov-Feb and my smart meter shows it increases electricity spend to £8 a day compared to £3-£4 a day when not in use!

Summergarden · 15/03/2019 20:52

Gosh, I didn’t realise just how much they gulp electricity! Think I’ll ask DH if there’s definitely no way to get a wet system if we are having the floors taken up anyway.

Do any of you have smart meters, or did you get refused one for having UFH at all?
