24 hours a day,7 days a week. £24 if your car doesn’t meet set standards. It will be interesting to see the repercussions of this. It’s the first ULEZ in the world.
Spreading to everywhere within the North and South circulars by 2021.

And people seem to be barely aware that it's happening, nor that it will expand considerably in 2012

They might once Brexit is less of a hot topic. I read up to 350,000 cars will be impacted.

First I've heard of it (but I don't live in London).

cyclingmad · 15/03/2019 00:29

Repercussions is better air quality and less polluting diesel cars on the road.

lalafafa · 15/03/2019 08:49

cyclingmad that's obvious. Maybe an impact on weekend shopping, late night shopping. People parking in outlying areas and taking public transport in.

also unless you set up an auto pay account if you drive into the affected area and don't realise you'll end up with a hefty fine.

This affects us. We live within the South Circular boundary and our car is a diesel. We rarely drive into central London, but it very much affect us from 2022. It's unaffordable for us to continue as we are even though we cycle to work and aren't heavy car users generally

We are investigating the following options - car club membership, better use of our bikes and public transport, car hire for holidays/journeys to see family. My husband is finding it hard to let go of the notion of car ownership, so we might look at an electric car, but only after we've given all the other option a try.
So overall, it's prompting us to examine a more sustainable way of living, which will benefit everyone in the city. I fully support it...it pushes us to take action we might otherwise not have considered

I totally support it too. our borough is already ramping up electric car charging points.
