Very nervous, on edge, over thinker and self-conscious - Could I have some sort of hormonal/nutrient imbalance?

Hi all,
I've always been a very nervous, on edge, over thinker (imaging the worst possible scenario) and self-conscious e.g. to speak up in group settings and usually find anything I do say comes out very stuttery, jumbled and in fast speech (almost like the "Jean Slater" character in Eastenders. I also have a tendency to be too smiley, too agreeable and too much of a people pleaser which probably ties in with the self conscious thing.

I've always had this sort of temperament I suppose but some days it can get really bad that I just feel so worked up - has anyone tried any herbs, vitamins, probiotics, supplements which have helped you stop this type of behaviour?

I'm guessing it's not to do with the reproductive hormones in my case as periods are generally fine-ish and not got any strong symptoms suggestive of reproductive hormone imbalance (but obviously cannot rule it out for certain). I've also had most of the vitamins and minerals measured in my blood (including iron) and everything is within the normal range. Additionally, I take vitamin D as a supplement.

I drink camomile tea every evening but it's more of a temporary cover up, rather than a cure and it's not very effective.

Do you take enough vitamin D? Many people are deficient and it can really affect you - but you need a very high dose plus cofactors to get your level up and then maintain it, much higher than standard supplements. If you google vitamin D protocol you’ll find it if you haven’t already.

You sound very much like me, I think it’s just my personality and a knock on of a difficult childhood.

@SinkGirl Thanks for your reply. I take a vitamin D spray and have been taking it frequently for over a year now. My levels were above the average vitamin D acceptable level but fortunately not as high as the toxicity level.

Any more replies welcome.

To be honest it sounds like you suffer from anxiety, in the sense that it's psychological, not caused by a physical issue. You can't take something to stop it in the sense of replenishing your body levels, you need to look at the root causes.

You sound like you’d benefit from a visit to the gp and maybe a referral for counselling. CBT can be really helpful around learning new strategies to cope with anxiety. I share a lot of what you describe but medication and therapy have made a big difference.
