How long does the basic DBS check take to come through?

Can anyone advise please? It would be for young adult dd who has had an opportunity come up in a few weeks' time, and we've checked that it is just the basic one needed. And I believe that you can request that one yourself, is that right?

Don't know about the basic one but when I had my enhanced one done a few months ago it came back within 2 days. The woman who processed it said she'd never seen one come back so quickly. I have only changed my name once (on marriage) and haven't changed address for nearly 30 years so don't know if that helped.

I’ve just had my enhanced one back in under a week.

The same day.

Yes, really.

Ive done a few enhanced ones at work recently and they have been about 2 weeks.

Grundtal · 14/03/2019 21:52

Enhanced one took about a week for me.

We did enhanced ones in October and I had the certificate in a week

It varies.
If there's nothing that flags it up then seems to be 1-2 weeks.

However mine always takes 2-3 months, sometimes we have to poke them. Apparently the reason is that if yours is thrown out of the run by a possible issue, it goes to the bottom of the heap. The most common reason is that you share your name with someone who does need flagging.
I can actually almost date the point someone who shares my name was convicted as I put 2 in for different organisations within a week, the first was back in 10 days, the second we had to ask them to hurry up after 3 months. Since then it's always taken ages. Irritating, but apparently nothing I can do.

That makes sense @Witchend as when exDH and I were buying our first house, we had no end of issues because there was someone with the same (fairly common) first name and surname, and date of birth (!!) who was an undischarged bankrupt. It took exDH ages to prove that he was him and not the other bloke.

Anyway, it's all academic now, because dd has a clash between the event and another commitment. Oh well.
