Brunch in Newcastle

I'm going to visit DS1 at uni and for various reasons need it to be a flying visit. Planning to meet him for brunch somewhere near the station so we can spend most of our time sitting and chatting rather than getting to a restaurant.

Any recommendations for a brunch place near the station that we can sit for a while- preferably bookable? Don't know the area very well so any insight would be great!

Centurion is actually in the station, it used to be the old first class lounge. It's got a bar and a cafe which I'm sure would be great for brunch.

How long do you have and what do you like? There's quite a few options, more if you have time to get down to the quayside, which isn't far from the station. If you can let me know a bit more I can make some suggestions!

I think we will arrive around 11 and wants to be back on a train around 1500. Thank you- I'll google centurion.

The Quayside is a 10 min walk from the station.....have a look at Vermont & Malmaison both have great views!

Quay Ingredient on the quayside is nice, and about a ten min walk from the station. If you want something a bit more interesting you could go a bit further out of town to a place called Kiln in the Ouseburn. There's also a good place for brunch called Ernest (also in Ouseburn). In the centre of town not far from station is Olive and Bean but you queue rather than book and last time I went the service wasn't great although the food is lovely.

Oh and just opposite the station is pink lane coffee. Not sure they do a full on brunch but great cakes and coffee etc. Also worth looking at settle down cafe x

blitzen · 14/03/2019 19:04

Doh, didn't mean settle down cafe....

Try Meet & Treat

Plenty of options if you walk to the Quayside. Your only a 15 walk from the town centre though.

The Botanist would be good. Less than ten minute walk up Grainger street and great views of the city as it has a rooftop restaurant. Olive and Bean also good.

Also Cafe Royal

Lots of nice places in Jesmond (Arlo and Cafe 1915 or whatever it's called in the old church) - also ouseburn has nice brunch places!

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/03/2019 19:13

Second The Botanist. Lovely atmosphere and food.

AdaColeman · 14/03/2019 19:30

What about the Empire Restaurant at the Royal Station Hotel? It's right next door to the station, a recently refurbished classic station hotel. Lovely helpful staff, nice food, there's a good selection of all day food.
You can book a table. There is also a cocktail bar for that farewell drink!

CannyLad · 14/03/2019 19:32

I'd head down the the quayside with the time that you have. The Broad Chair is nice, plenty of choices. There's a variety of places in shipping containers below the bridge www.bytheriverbrew.co/ something for everyone and you could have a nice wander through the Sage, into the Baltic to see what weirdness they have on display and back across the foot bridge before tackling the hill back up to the station.

Newcastle, and Gateshead, are fab.

ForalltheSaints · 14/03/2019 20:17

Brunch? Outside the M25? Whatever next- you'll expect a Waitrose next!!

OwlMother · 14/03/2019 22:23

Great options, thank you all! Sounds like I can do brunch and still have time to buy his supplies at Waitrose in Eldon Square! Wink
