Colleague doesn't speak to me

It didn't look right to me to put it into employment issues as this isn't an issue with my employer but more of a personal thing.

I joined my workplace a few years before my office colleague. I have always been kind to her, helped her to settle, passed on every information I had, but since she properly settled, she started speaking to me less and less.

Now, this isn't technically necessary as we work on two different projects, but leaves me baffled.
(None of us is British originally but her background is very different to mine, if it matters).

Someone in our group in another room recently left and my boss has just told me that she has asked to move to their desk, to sit closer to the other person who is an expert in something she is interested in (boss knows I have been learning the subject independently reading books, but clearly I can talk/ask them any time anyway).

Boss was really embarrassed while telling me. I faked a smile joking about the joys of an office only for myself. Am I right thinking it's something weird or am I overreacting?

Oh, and the same weird feeling was there when she was the only one finding an excuse to not come to my house with the others to visit my then 3 months old DS when I was on mat leaveConfused

If I ask what I've been doing wrong I can look ridiculous as there isn't anything explicit, but honestly I don't have clue!

I'd say if your boss looked embarrassed then it does seem like there's an issue but it's not a professional one so you probably won't get any details. You can try asking your boss if you think they are able to handle the situation delicately but if it's an issue with her then you may never know. The only thought that sprang to my mind is that if this started after you fell pregnant she could be TTC and not coping well with your success.

It could really be anything though and if your boss hasn't mentioned it then it's not something they feel you need to change so I'd just try to let it go. It's very annoying but unless you are impacted then just chalk it up to "can't win 'em all"

My boss is a very "British" man, so doesn't want to get involved in personal issues and deals with the professional ones in a very tactful way, so probably you're right.

She's not TTC as older than me (probably out of time) and claims not to like children at all (maybe it's an excuse and didn't succeed previously?)

I'm not someone to be jealous professionally either, as - although conscientious - with a baby I must leave work out of the door after 5pm so not in a position to be the boss' pet or anything.
