Morning all!

Very excited as i have been surprised by my DH with a 2 day trip to London this weekend.

This is our first time been away on our own child free in 3 years!!

So we of course have been to London many times and have done all the usual tourist things buckingham palace, tower of london, harrods, hamleys, Greenwich observatory, boat on the Thames, big ben ect ect!

Looking for different maybe unusual suggestions of things to possible do?

We arrive Friday afternoon! On the list are beyond bread bakery as my DH is coeliac, the ice bar

Would have loved to see a show on the saturday night but tickets are all sold out or only 1 seat left plus i cannot afford over £100 a ticket!!

Would be grateful of other suggestions

Thank you :)

You might feel this would take too much of your time, but I love walking east along the Thames Path from London Bridge (north side) to Canary Wharf. The path does go away from the river quite a bit, but when you are beside it, the views are stunning. Couple of nice pubs on the way including The Grapes in Narrow Street.

Todaytix app is great for last minute cheap tickets - Admissions, Follies, Come from Away, Company, etc - all really good shows.

V&A is great if you havent been there before - and wander around South Ken

Or postal museum/mail rail and Kings Cross/Coal Yard are a good shout

Down in Waterloo, the Vault festival is on at Leake Street - lots of pop up restaurants and bars to explore too

The Foundling Museum: foundlingmuseum.org.uk/ - near Russell Square tube station. "The Foundling Museum tells the story of the Foundling Hospital which was founded in 1739 to care for babies at risk of abandonment".

@NakedAvenger I soooo want to do this one now... Pub crawl of beautiful ancient pubs starting from Wapping ending at the Blackfriar

Do you just muddle your way along. Or is there an accepted route?

Brick Lane to see all the fantastic street art graffiti

Plenty to see and do in Marylebone. Nice shops, lovely places to eat whether you just want a coffee, lunch or an evening meal.

Sky Garden?

NakedAvenger · 14/03/2019 20:01

@BrassicaBabe start at the Grapes (nearest station Limehouse or Canary Wharf, not to be confused with the grubby one in the city) Prospect of Whitby, Captain Kidd, Town of Ramsgate ... just keep plodding down the side of the Thames and you can't go wrong.

There's a bit of a deadzone after Tower Bridge on the north side of the river. You are permitted to walk over to the south bank at that stage and pick up the many pubs there
Alway finish in the Blackfriar on BF Bridge for cosy nooks

If you are feeling especially thirsty and up for a longer walk then start at the Gun at Canary wharf but it's going to mean 40 more mins on your walk.

I'll be honest. We often don't get out of the Grapes. Great pub with excellent history and Sir Ian McKellan owns it.

Have you looked at tickets for a show Friday matinee or Saturday matinee? Much cheaper

showmethegin · 14/03/2019 23:15

Or Sunday matinee. We've just booked tickets for the lion king for 50 each
