Does anyone know where I can find one? Mail order and plain navy in medium? I thought it would be easy!
TIA!

I don’t know (have never had one despite being local as I’m told they are terribly itchy) however there’s a FB group called GSY Ebuy, someone on there may be able to help you, or email the Guernsey shop, not sure if they do mail order but they may be able to help (if you’ve not tried them already)

Thanks @Ezzie29 I’ll email them.

Woolovers (woolovers.com) used to have a range of guernsey sweaters. I have one of their guernsey cardigans and it's really warm and slightly shrugs off light rain, also very heavy.

Their website is currently only showing a beigy men's one and a striped cotton women's one, but it might be worth giving them a ring to see if they have any old stock lying about.

I've spoken to them on the phone and found them very helpful.

You could try The Cornish Gansey Company or Flamborough Marine. They're not cheap - there's at least 50 hours of skilled knitting time in a guernsey sweater.

This is the only place to buy a genuine Guernsey from - Le Tricoteur is the place in Guernsey that makes them. They are massively itchy though!

You want to get one from Le Tricoteur - the original but also most pricey I believe.

Thank you so much! Some of them are £££!
I’ve found one on eBay and I’ll call woolovers tomorrow- I’d found the oatmeal one already but yes, worth a call.

They are expensive but if you look after it then it should last you forever! I know of people who are wearing Guernseys which are 30 years old, and have a bit of darning going on, but still look good.

youmeandconchitawurst · 18/03/2019 07:43

Have a look online for Island at the edge colonsay Gansey. I covet this so much but have neither the patience nor the cash!

RealJudas · 18/03/2019 07:56

My grandma used to knit them and my whole family used to wear them (at the same time), we must have looked a right bunch of twats Grin disclaimer: I am the youngest and had no say in the matter

This makes me sound like a silver haired old granny (I'm not Smile) but I knitted my first guernsey 40 years ago. I used the original Poppletons yarn, and it still looks like new, apart from a couple of moth holes.

I have knitted several more over the years, but the yarn isn't as good. One I made for DH literally disintegrated. I'm currently knitting one for DS.

Personally, I really love my Saint James Breton jumper atm link

TonTon, have you tried the Frangipani yarn? The Guernsey group on Ravelry rate it. (If you're a knitter and you''re not on Ravelry, WHY NOT?!? Membership is free and you get access to a huge range of patterns, free and paid, fora covering all interests and the free help of the most knowledgeable knitters I know. www.ravelry.com)

TonTonMacoute · 18/03/2019 12:28

Frangipani yarn is exactly what I use! Smile

Have never heard of Ravelry, but am off to investigate immediately. I used to knit all the time, and am just getting back into it so it sounds excellent.
