Alexa and Hive

Evening all

So today I have had Hive fitted. All good, I've enabled the skill on Alexa and I can control
It with my voice. Amazeballs.

Now what I am confused with is how to expand my smart hone gadgets.

Do I need to get hive products or Alexa compatible products. I want to use Alexa to control things.

So like light switches and bulbs. And plugs

Alexa compatible things.

They’re brilliant.

Definitely plug sockets for side lamps.

Ooohh thank you.

I'm looking on eBay now at some Alexa compatible plugs. Two for £9.

So I am guessing when the plugs are plugged in, that makes them "live" so that Alexa can see them to connect, then you just rename the plugs to the appliance that is plugged into them?

Am doing my kettle, bedroom side light, living room side light and I might do the telly Grin

You can buy Alexa or hive. Alexa plugs/bulbs are cheaper but if you ever get rid of her won’t work with hive.

I have my fish tank/fans in summer etc all onsmart plugs set for times/temps.

Why are you doing your kettle by the way? Do you have one that you can leave the switch on ready? Otherwise it won’t make a blind bit of difference. Mine won’t let you leave it on unless the plug is actually on.

Oh I didn't know you needed a special kettle I just presumed the smart
Plug would override the button on the kettle.

It’s a safety function on standard kettles that you can’t have it on unless power is running though it so you would still have to get up and do it. Same as my stupid “smart” washer.
