Anyone in 40's retrained or studied for a totally new career?

I am looking to go back to work. However, I do think my old profession is a young persons game (very sales driven) and it was very stressful.

I'd like to retrain either practically for a new career or go back to Uni to learn a new skill and hopefully turn that into a job.

If you have retrained or studied for a new profession can you please share your experiences. TIA

I abandoned a decade of being a teacher at 35 to go into digital service design (with a couple of years in Civil Service to bridge the gap). Not quite 40s, but not so far off.

I'm nearly 40 and thinking of retraining as something completely different too.

I'd like to do something completely different. I've always been massively into health and fitness. I know that sounds really wooooo but I'd love to do something like study nutrition. I'm not looking to make loads of money out of it, just do something I enjoy and do something that contributes a teeny tiny bit to making things better for other people.

I will qualify as an Occupational Therapist in June (All being well with last assignments!) at the age of 42. Was a primary school teacher in early to late 20’s. Had two children and did part time jobs around them. They are now 12 and 14 so time for me to have my second career!

It has been hard going, mainly as academic study does not come easy to me - but the course is very accessible and family friendly hours etc. I am deffo not the oldest on the course by a considerable margin, the age spread is fab - 19 to mid fifties? I was the last batch on the bursary though, so it is fees and loans to do the course now!

Good luck whatever you decide to do!
