Do they collect bins if the lid doesn't shut?

Do they? My lid isn't shut but have no where else to throw all these nappies Blush

Mine do. Will also collect the odd extra bag.

TheQueef · 13/03/2019 11:38

Depends on the collecter.

JumpOrBePushed · 13/03/2019 11:42

I suspect it depends on your area and your binmen.
Our binmen collect bins where theyre too full for the lid to shut, but I’ve seen people in neighbouring areas complain on FB etc because their overfilled bin wasn’t collected.

Mine seems to depend on how they are feeling that day! Normally they will collect it, however sometimes they take the bag out of the bin and leave it in the garden 🙄 and it doesnt even need to be overflowing for them to do this! The lid can be slightly open, just a tad!

Sorry for the rant!

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 13/03/2019 11:53

I think it depends on the area. Here they don't care if the lid is shut or if you leave extra bags by the side of the bin, they will collect them all. Other places it's only bags in bins, lids shut, not even open a tiny bit.

I'm glad ours are flexible.

MrsJayy · 13/03/2019 11:54

Ours collect they kinda have to collect rubbish regardless of shut lids.

InsertFunnyUsername · 13/03/2019 11:54

Although i should be grateful they collect the bin after removing the one bag. In some councils they wack a sticker on the bin and refuse to collect any of it!

MrsJayy · 13/03/2019 11:55

What the ... they take rubbish out and leave it bet some jobsworth at the council came up with that "rule"

MrsJayy · 13/03/2019 11:56

Ours put naughty stickers on recycling bins but not the rubbish bin.

ifoundthebread · 13/03/2019 11:57

Our bin men are really good, they'll take it even if it's over flowing or there's bags on the floor next to it. They also check the bungalow bins to see if they need emptying even if they haven't been taken out to the road side as they know there is elderly people living there.

64sNewName · 13/03/2019 11:57

In our city I’ve heard you sometimes get a preprinted slip with a warning note through your door if the bin lid won’t shut. Not sure what next step would be.

The couple downstairs from us had twins and requested a larger bin to deal with nappies and the council supplied it - I don’t know how easy that is to get in different areas though. Then they moved and their special large-size bin was inherited by new neighbours without kids. I quietly covet it.

Clevs · 13/03/2019 11:58

Ours do. But I also requested, and got given, a larger bin when my son was born due to the increased waste. Might be worth checking with your council? I applied online on a Saturday night and the bin was delivered before we'd even got up on Monday morning.

caute · 13/03/2019 12:08

They have taken it! Didn't know you could apply for a bigger bin will do that.

MrsJayy · 13/03/2019 12:10

My neighbour at 1 point had 3 in nappies she had to get a bigger bin

Dothehappydance · 13/03/2019 12:17

Ours officially won't but I think of it is just a bit open they still will.

AnnieOH1 · 13/03/2019 12:18

We paid for a local med waste service £7 a fortnight with a yellow bin for the duration of ours being in nappies. They were then incinerated rather than landfill with the incinerator running district heating in nearby town. Win win. :)

Our bin men are weird as. With the recycling collection we can leave 3 bags and outsize cardboard outside the bin but woe betide you if you leave the bin lid open even by a cm (without anything at the side I mean!)
