Early menopause symptoms

Was just wondering if anyone has been through early menopause? It's occurred to me in the last couple of days my symptoms may point to this.

What were your symptoms if you don't mind sharing please? I think I am going to see if I can get a blood test done during my period going by my googling for how to have this checked.

Thanks

Sweat pouring down the back of my neck. Sweat in bed, skin feels prickly. Mood is either super happy or suicidal. The problem is high stress can cause these symptoms to.

Thanks @Slowcookervegan. That's what made me wonder if it's a possibility. I've been suffering night sweats on and off for a few months, to the point my pyjamas are damp and clingy and my skin and hair are wet. I have never suffered from excessive sweating in the daytime. It's been especially bad this week in the lead up to my period. I'm early 30s and no family history however my mother described her peri menopause to me and symptoms sound very similar.

I've had such an increase in anxiety recently yet some days I'm in such a good place. Other days I feel like a useless lump, can't eat healthily, get motivated, worry about everything etc. My skin is more dry, my hair is nearly crispy despite taking more care and supplements. Hmmmm.

Hi news! No experience of this yet, but my mother, grandmother and grandmothers mother all had early menopause early 30s, so I'm expecting this could happen to me too. I went through a time of having night sweats and did think this is it, but have since fallen pregnant and had ds at 31.
Id certainly ask for a blood test. Your symptoms do sound like possibly the start of early menopause, but I guess could be other things too. Pop to see your gp and hope you get to bottom of your symptoms.

I went through it at around 40/41 years (am now 47).

Symptoms were erratic periods (months of nothing then 2 or 3 very, very heavy ones close together in time), crippling migraines, night sweats. I had blood tests to confirm it (3 lots, several weeks apart to look at hormone levels).

Months of hot sweats, mood changes more down than up, zero confidence, memory issues, unable to retain information.
The most distressing thing is difficulty maintaining a healthy weight.
Anxiety too. Strangely itchy eyes, awful itchy eyes. Aching and painful joints.

Still having regular periods though.
I’ve not been to the gp though as I’m not sure I would go down the medication route.

I’ve embraced the self help route to begin with so I’ve overhauled my diet, I’ve been 99% plant based for the last year, vegan diet almost exclusively. Taking calcium, cod liver oil and multi vits supplements. (hence the 99% plant based)
This has definitely helped with weight control, joint pain, hot sweats have reduced massively just every 2-3 days instead of daily.
It’s miserable though. So sympathies .

Thanks all and sympathies for the horrid symptoms you're all or have been experiencing. Perhaps I'll call the doctors and see if they want me to come in yet.

We're supposed to be TTC #2 in a couple of months time and I would need to go in anyway to get a prescription for higher dose folic acid for that. I've had variances in my cycle and spotting for years which was diagnosed in 2014 as "mild hormone imbalance", I wonder if it's just that or if that diagnosis wasn't correct.

In the meantime I'll follow the good advice of looking into diet changes and tweaking my supplements in case it is. Thanks again!

Sailed through it. Had one week of feeling tired and getting very hot in the night and waking up because I was so hot. I don't sweat so found the hot flushes in the night very uncomfortable.

I met a woman in a supermarket and she recommended Menopace and I took them and never looked back.

I'm in my fifties and this was 7 years ago and the only lasting problem is a sluggish short term memory.

Crinkle77 · 13/03/2019 20:34

I am 41 and have been having night sweats for about the last 12 months. Not had hot flushes but I do generally feel warmer. I always used to be a cold bodied person but always seems to be warm these days.

OP if you think you have symptoms in your early 30s this is quite serious for your long term health- it's called premature menopause and needs treating with HRT because losing estrogen 20 years early has serious consequences on bone and heart health, and possibly memory.

You need to see your GP, have blood tests ( days 2-5 of your cycle) and be referred to a gynae if you have high FSH levels.

The Daisy Network is a charity for women with prem menopause and it's run by doctors- they have a website.

JinglingHellsBells · 13/03/2019 20:44

you need treatment with early menopause even if you have no flushes or other symptoms- it's a medical condition and needs supplementation just like people use thyroxin or insulin for low hormones.

Women who have early menopause often feel fine but then they get to 50 and find they have severe osteoporosis, or heart issues in their 60s.

These are not myths or scaremongering, it's established medical advice and treatment.

I went through it at 32 just after having dc2. AF never came back actually, but hot flushes were really bad 12-18 months after birth. I went to the gp with a few issues and dropped this one in along with the others. I had a sympathetic doctor because he did my bloods straight away, called me a week later and officially diagnosed at the gynae within the month.

I was actually booked in for tests before getting pg with dc2 and looking back it was all to do with this.

The good news was hrt stopped all symptoms within the week!

Good luck ttc, I conceived after symptoms started.

Thank you all. I've called the GP this morning and typically they've changed their appointment process so I've completed a long winded faked live chat which wasn't actually live, just automated, and now await a phone call or email to say whether I have an appointment of any kind!

How did you get on news? Hope all went OK.

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 15/03/2019 06:53

@Nicecupofcoco thank you, the doctor was great, she called me back and I'm going in this morning for a blood test. Luckily it's the optimum time of the month to test so I don't need to wait.

She did say I could be perimenopausal without it showing on the test however as it's better at confirming you're post menopausal due to hormone fluctuations, or at least I think that's how she explained it!
