I work in a reasonably low income area and earn 35k which is a good wage locally. However, the stress is killing me (literally). As a single parent need to keep the wage but not the stress. Any ideas/suggestions?

Currently a child protection social worker

It will be dependent on where you are in the country and what you consider stressful
Is there a head office of a big company near you? Executive PAs/assistants will make at least that in lots of companies, or office managers in smaller companies
Digital/social media marketing
Retail management roles

I earn £30k a year and adore my job, it is about as stress-free as possible. Obviously at certain times of the month/year it gets a little hectic (finance sector) but for the most part, I am left to get on with it & it ticks along nicely. My friends & family think I must be a lazy sod because I will often say "aw I just sat on MN for most of the afternoon" but genuinely, I feel that it is because I laid down such good foundations/processes that much of my headaches take care of themselves Smile

R&D metallurgist working in industry rather than academia. No pressure to publish papers like academics, permenant contracts and better pay. Earn mid40s.

Also not held to the manufacturing drum beat so the best of both worlds.

(Oh and I don’t need a PhD!)

I'm a nanny.

Good money. Some times other perks too. Very little stress. Very rewarding. Lots of opportunity for overtime/extra work.

But it is long hours. And you'd probably need to be in London to earn good money.

I found the 'cure' to workplace stress was about accepting my limitations in solving all the issues of the day. This is easier since I left teaching, and I rather suspect that social work is a similarly difficult industry to choose how big a bite you can take of anything on any given day.
There are plenty of other industries where you have more control over them demands of your contributions.
