Just found my missing Christmas Brie - still ok to eat?

I bought a rather fancy Brie round for Christmas and thought I was going mad as it went missing butjust found it lurking at the back of the fridge where it had obviously slipped down behind the wine rack/cold drawer let's ignore the fact this is the first time I've done a proper fridge clean since Christmas.
Best before 8th Jan but I've just spotted leftover red wine from our Sunday lunch and thinking a lump of Brie would go rather nicely and it's just mould or is this pushing it even with cheese? Would take the skin off to be safe Wink

I wouldn't.

But that's probably because I found some left over brie in the fridge last week & it smelled rank. The packet was open though.

I find brie stinks of ammonia really quickly, so probably not.

It was still well sealed, didn't smell or look odd so I had a chunk with the rind taken off. Tasted fine but all the comments put me off so I binned the rest but now wishing I'd just cooked something with it instead as I hate wasting food. Oh well and still standing a few hours on so no doubt it was fine.

Cheese is literally milk’s attempt at immortality. is the best thing I have ever read on Mumsnet. Despite this, the key word there is "attempt", so it's a hell no from me.

Oh you binned it, that's a shame. If it tasted fine, looked fine and smelled fine then it was fine. I've eaten yogurt a month out of date, and cheese many months out of date and there was absolutely nothing wrong with them.

Use by dates are very very conservative and most brie type cheese isn't even ripe by the date. And I really wouldn't take notice of the comments on here - people are ridiculously overcautious and unnecessarily fearful of tiny tiny risks.

It's just a modern version of 'cave aged' brie as far as I'm concerned.
