Potential employer wants me to pay for the check

As the title says, they will take the money from my first week's pay meaning I work for two days "free". I have a current dbs check from current employer but they will not accept this. Dbs nor cost were mentioned in the ad, feel a bit backed off they want me to pay them to work for them iyswim. Is this the norm now?

Mine was from here... It's an Ofsted specific one so perhaps why the cost was different? ofsteddbsapplication.co.uk/step-one.aspx

This is where I was directed by the charity (a preschool, I'm on board of trustees). But it's not the same site that I used to use to be DBS checks for Girlguiding, for instance. Which did cost about £40 as pp have said.

The £8.00 is an administration fee for volunteers so not applicable if you are working. The cost of the DBS depends on which company you use to process it. The vary, the one we are using costs £56.40.

Mine was done for free through the Uni, I pay annually for it to update so iif II want to change jobs I can quite easily.
Where I work they charge the carers £35 (might be 40 now if it went up) for the DBS check.
Charging you £100 tells you from the start what kind of people they are. Not sure I'd want to work for them seeing they are trying to rip you off before you even start.
