*Boring alert!* Shark vacuum cleaner

Anyone got a cordless upright Shark? I have a big old heavy Dyson ( now demoted to car hoovering as too heavy on my deep pile
living room carpet) Bought a Bosch Athlet 2.5 years ago- thought it was great but the battery life just hasn’t lasted and also the attachments are fiddly to put on so under my radiators and some skirting boards are an embarrassment!
I don’t know if it’s with forking out £349 for a cordless upright when corded versions are available but I don’t think I can go back to me or the kids tripping over the lead! Any opinions?

Haven’t got the cordless Shark but I have got a Shark and it’s great. Very good suction and lots of attachments. I’m sure the cordless is fab.

waryandbored · 12/03/2019 06:31

There’s a Shark cordless on QVC today for £299. Only one battery though, which is putting me off a little. They are the best vacuums I had ever used!

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 12/03/2019 06:33

I too don’t have the cordless. I decided against it because none of the cordless vacuums have particularly great battery life really.
I got the lift away. The cord is huge so don’t miss not having a cordless. It’s great on all floor surfaces and has some good attachments. A friend used it to have a quick tidy up before we got back from holiday and loved it.

I'm interested in this as I'll never buy Dyson again because of James Dyson backing brexit for others but moving his own company to Singapore

We have a cordless shark and love it, DH is a bit obsessed.

We got ours on black friday with a hefty discount as I couldn't imagine spending so much on a vacuum cleaner.

We only have one battery and it is fine, but it doesn't last ages. Whether this annoys you probably depends upon how big your house is and whether you like to do one big clean or just whizz round as and when. We have found it fine. You can buy replacement batteries after too.

PooFlower · 12/03/2019 06:46

The one I have has two batteries in a charging station so one is on charge at all times.
Each battery lasts 15 to 30 mins depending on if you boost the power. It is good on carpets but I still keep my dyson for when my hard floors need a really good clean.
The shark is best for everyday keeping on top of it though.
The dust thing lasts a few cleans too and is easy to empty.

GinaCarbonara · 12/03/2019 06:47

I've got a cordless Shark, it's great, but like PP said it does depend on how you use it.

My apartment is medium sized- 2 bed, 2 baths, office, kitchen and living/dining room. I don't tend to vacuum the whole thing at once, rather I'll do a room or a bit as needed so it never really runs out of battery.

If you have a huge place and like to do the whole thing at once I imagine it would be annoying.

hardyloveit · 12/03/2019 06:51

I've got the lift away shark so not cordless but can do the whole of downstairs and walk up the stairs before having to change sockets! It's so powerful! Best hoover I've ever had! We got ours in the Black Friday event last year

bottleofbeer · 12/03/2019 07:05

I've got the lift away. I've never had a Hoover like it, you think your floors are clean until you use it. They're really, really not. Especially good if you have pets. I filled the thing twice in one day when we first got it. On floors I'd previously thought were fine. The one before was a Dyson.

jcq17 · 12/03/2019 07:11

Just for my 2penneth Iv got a dyson v8 cordless and it's amazing. Ample time to hoover and really powerful. Shark cordless are really heavy in my eyes.

SoupDragon · 12/03/2019 07:17

I have this one but it was onoffer for about £180 (and has been since so it's worth looking) and it's amazing. I don't find it at all heavy to use. It comes with two batteries and a charging dock so one is always on charge. I used to have a corded Dyson and this one beats it hands down. The Dyson was shit (anything smaller than a grain of dust blocked the head due to a stupid design)

Yes I have one and it's flipping fantastic! Just bought the one battery one as the second battery is cheaper elsewhere separately. I have 2 dogs and it's brilliant, the amount of hair and dust I got up from my carpets the first time I used it was shocking and I had a highly rated Miele before!

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 12/03/2019 07:48

I have the cordless shark. I love it. Money well spent. Doesn't have the best battery (20 mins i think) can get round most of the house in one go. We live in townhouse and tend to do one floor at a time.

MrsCasares · 12/03/2019 12:46

Have only the corded liftaway, but it beats the dyson by miles.
.

viccat · 12/03/2019 13:13

Interested in this as I've been looking a them too. I have an old Dyson currently but it's a cylinder type and the lead is not very long at all...

Can I ask a stupid question about the charging; do you need to have a wall mounted charging port or can you just plug it in anywhere to charge? I don't have a suitable location to wall mount, the place where I am planning to store it doesn't have a socket on the wall at all.

PrayingandHoping · 12/03/2019 13:14

@viccat the battery comes out of the hoover so you can plug it in anywhere you want 👍

Oldtiger · 12/03/2019 19:42

Oooh thanks everyone! Never expected so many useful replies. I wonder whether I should just go for the lift away as I think the charge might annoy me a bit and I already have the Bosch Athlet cordless for quick 5-10 min jobs.
Thanks soupdragon I saw a few on Amazon last night and was a bit bamboozled with all the options.

Not boring at all OP!

We have a larger than average home, we have a cordless air ram downstairs and a Morphy Richards super vac for the upstairs bedrooms.

Only recharge them both once per week.

As I am disabled cordless is much safer for me and no carrying hoover up and down the stairs.

Oldtiger · 16/03/2019 17:28

UPDATE!!!
Oh my goodness I’ve just picked up one of these Shark upright Lift Away models that were on offer at Curroes, price matching online. It is nothing short of brilliant! So easy to use and attach all the pieces that the children are now honestly vacuuming their bedrooms Shock
The amount of dust and dirt on my living room carpet that came up was unbelievable and gross at the same time! Now I know what I’m doing with my Saturday evening 😂

OP posts:
EdgesWedges · 18/03/2019 10:46

@Oldtiger which model did you get in the end?

OP posts:
shelikesemwithamoustache · 18/03/2019 20:10

I have a shark liftaway and I love it. I got the 1.6 litre one as we have a biggish house and animals/children etc. Easily the best hoover i’be had - so easy to use and clip apart and the lift away bit is revolutionary for thing like the stairs. I’ve had bad, dyson, hoover etc and this is by far the best, amazing suction. It’s a corded one but the cord is really long so it’s not really an issue.

I have heard many mixed things about the Shark, in particular the anti-hair wrap one.
Miele Cat & Dog is the best.
